Internship: Advanced object characterisation engineer

Our teams in the Space surveillance and Tracking sector are looking for interns to start their career development with us, participating in Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and space debris mitigation activities.

WHAT CHALLENGE WILL YOU BE TAKING ON?

In the frame of this internship, the goal will be to investigate and develop advanced methods for object characterisation using SST sensor data, with an empahsis on either :

• developing attitude estimation method using laser observations from large non-cooperative (not equipped with retroreflectors) targets
• estimating of the attitude from radar cross section (RCS) measurements by relating the signal variations to the object’s orientation and geometry
• exploiting optical images of an object of known shape, by the analysis of its projected outline and visible surfaces

The different activities that can be envisaged are:

• Bibliographic analysis.
• Methods definition and design.
• Software implementation of the selected methods.
• Execution of simulations (validation, analysis of results, post-treatment...).
• Technical note writing.

WHAT DO WE NEED IN OUR TEAM?

We're looking for an engineer/mathematics/physics student (or equivalent) with curiosity in research activities, a taste for the scientific method (conscientious and methodical) and with object-oriented SW development skills.

• Applied mathematics and physics
• Object-oriented SW development – Python
• We will also value knowledge in Parallel algorithm analysis and development
