Investment Accountant

Position Description

This position will be responsible for monthly investment accounting, book close, account reconciliation and analysis, and an understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to deliver accurate and timely financial reports.

This position must meet tight deadlines and a multitude of investment accounting activities including transaction processing and cash reconciliation.

The position will have contact with clients, NEAM’s portfolio managers, and the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills to provide excellent customer service.

Primary responsibilities include:

Prepares monthly investment report package on a timely basis for STAT, GAAP, IFRS and other bases

Prepares statutory quarterly and annual Schedule D regulatory reports and GAAP financial and footnote packages for investment accounting clients with prompt regard for established deadlines

Performs daily reconciliation of accounts to the custodial and/or external manager record including cash, trades, income and dividends, special deposits, etc., including communication with clients and custodians to clarify and resolve discrepancies

Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the client’s general ledger structure

Monitors and analyzes their own work to develop more efficient procedures while maintaining a high level of accuracy

Responds to inquiries from the clients, their auditors, and NEAM’s portfolio managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc. in a timely manner

Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures to enhance the workflow of the department

Review the PIK schedules on file and anticipate and record the daily activity

Maintains monthly performance results of clients’ portfolios

Collaborate with the other investment accountants to support overall department goals and objectives

Intellectual curiosity and openness to utilize AI-enabled tools to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications

BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting required, CPA desired but not required.

5 years of experience in Insurance or Financial Services in accounting preferred

Strong ability to work under pressure and meet required deadlines

Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting

Must have developed experience with Microsoft Excel (Vlookup, macros, pivot tables, etc.)

Solid verbal and written communication skills

Ability to multi-task and stay organized

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required

SQL report writing experience desired
