A Brief Overview CHOP is looking for an Investment Operations Associate to join the Investment Office. Responsible for managing the Hospital's over $5 billion endowment, the Investment Office is comprised of a small team that has a large impact on CHOP's long-term mission. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Investment Operations Associate will support the management of both the portfolio and Investment Office operations. This role requires the ability to analyze and synthesize data, exercise independent judgment, build relationships, and create high quality deliverables. The Investment Operations Associate will also serve as a part of the larger team, providing support as needed. Exercises limited decision-making authority while independently owning and delivering process outcomes. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate is a proactive, intellectually curious investment operations professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys taking ownership of complex processes. They are equally comfortable working with data, managing relationships, and navigating operational challenges. In addition, the ideal candidate will bring: 5+ years of experience in an investment, endowment, asset management, or broader finance function. Experience supporting trading operations, investment compliance, and counterparty relationships . Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information into actionable insights. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The ability to work independently while contributing to a highly collaborative team environment. What you will do Under the Director’s and CIO’s guidance, the Investment Operations Associate will support and/or lead the execution and development of best practices related to all operational functions of the Investment Office including, but not limited to, the following: Investment Execution & Monitoring Execution and settlement of investments, including capital call fundings, trading, rebalancing, etc. Reconciliation of investment activity between the accounting and investment books of record, including contributions, distributions, subscriptions, redemptions, etc. Monitoring of investment terms and conditions for all active investments, including key dates, fees, term extensions, etc. Reconciliation of investment activity between the accounting and investment books of record, including contributions, distributions, subscriptions, redemptions, etc. Reporting Monthly portfolio performance reporting at investment, asset class, and overall portfolio level Benchmarking, attribution, and exposure analysis to continually enhance quality of reporting Work closely with the custodian, consultants, and finance colleagues to coordinate and ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting Document and Research Management Initial setup and onboarding of prospective investments in research management system Investment documentation and reporting, including naming, categorization, and tagging for investment and accounting use within research and portfolio management systems Extraction and validation of relevant data from regular investment reporting Audit & Compliance Work with external auditors to develop and execute plan for the annual audit of the investment portfolio Engage with internal audit team during periodic reviews and provide all necessary support to satisfy ad-hoc requests Monitoring of adherence to Investment Policy Statements and investment guidelines Other Ongoing refinement of investment documentation and knowledge management process Operational due diligence process for existing and prospective investments Maintain strong working relationships with other external providers (custodian, brokerage, consultants, vendors, etc.) Any ad-hoc projects, initiatives, and analyses necessary Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Accounting or Finance - Required Experience Qualifications At least five (5) years Previous experience in investment or finance function - Required At least five (5) years Previous experience with trading, compliance and managing counterparty relationships - Required Previous experience working within a lean and high-performing team - Preferred Previous exposure to traditional and alternative investment strategies - Preferred Skills and Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative work style (Required proficiency) Outstanding writing and verbal communications (Required proficiency) Demonstrated track record of producing high quality deliverables on tight deadlines (Required proficiency) Extreme attention to detail and intellectually honest (Required proficiency) Professional and organized work style (Required proficiency) Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to work independently without the need for detailed guidance (Required proficiency) Self- motivated and results oriented with ability to quickly analyze data and communicate results (Required proficiency) Strong project management skills along with a proven ability to develop project plans, provide regular updates to project sponsors, and adjust project direction as needed (Required proficiency) Ability to manage multiple complex assignments with proven ability to assess competing priorities in a high energy, fast paced environment (Required proficiency) Practical in approach – has a natural orientation to getting things accomplished quickly in a high-quality way and maximizes results with available resources (Required proficiency) Transparent and able to incorporate feedback in real time into personal performance (Required proficiency) History of building trust and fostering sustainable relationships with key stakeholders, including an ability to collaborate and partner with other subject matter experts and business leaders (Required proficiency) Able to effectively cope with change and easily shift gears between strategy, design, and delivery (Required proficiency) Highly effective in ambiguous environment and able to produce maximum results with little direction and guidance (Required proficiency) Interest in the endowment model of investing (Required proficiency) Proficient Excel and modeling skills with competence across the Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of investment research & portfolio management systems is a plus (e.g. Dynamo, Bipsync, Caissa, Private I, etc) (Required proficiency) Deep understanding of Large Language Models and their practical applications within financial services, market research, and data automation.
