Senior IT Engineer (MSP)
Salary: £37,000–£45,000, plus benefits
Location: Burscough, West Lancashire, with hybrid working available after probation

CRG TEC is supporting an established managed service provider (MSP) based in the West Lancashire area to recruit an experienced Senior IT Engineer. The company supports a range of customers and technology environments, offering a varied workload for engineers who enjoy solving technical challenges and delivering practical improvements. Its technical team works across support, infrastructure and project delivery, helping customers maintain and improve their IT services.
About The Role
This is a broad, predominantly third-line support role for an engineer ready to take ownership of complex technical issues and contribute to customer projects. You will investigate and resolve escalated incidents across varied customer environments, providing clear updates and ensuring work is documented appropriately. Alongside support, you will take part in infrastructure improvements and project work, with opportunities to contribute to Microsoft 365 migrations, Modern Workplace deployments, server upgrades and other customer initiatives.
The technology landscape includes Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server and Azure, as well as networking technologies such as firewalls, switches, VLANs and VPNs. Your day may involve troubleshooting a Microsoft 365 or Intune issue, investigating an Active Directory or Azure problem, resolving a server fault or assisting with a network or infrastructure project. This variety makes the role well suited to someone who enjoys working across different technologies rather than focusing on a single platform.
Qualifications
You will have several years of hands-on experience in an MSP or a comparable customer-facing IT support environment. You may already be working as a Senior IT Engineer or Third-Line Engineer, or be an experienced Second-Line Engineer who regularly handles escalations and is ready to take the next step.
You should have a solid working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory and Entra ID. Practical experience with Intune is particularly important. A good understanding of Azure, networking and general infrastructure troubleshooting will also be valuable. Experience supporting migrations, upgrades or other technical projects is an advantage. Equally important are a methodical approach to problem-solving, clear communication, sound customer service and the ability to take ownership through to resolution.
Responsibilities
Manage complex third-line escalations across customer environments, diagnosing root causes and implementing effective, sustainable resolutions. Provide technical support across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Active Directory, Windows Server, Azure and networking infrastructure. Take ownership of incidents, communicate progress to customers and colleagues, and maintain accurate records of investigation and resolution. Support infrastructure improvements and contribute to customer projects, including migrations, Modern Workplace deployments and server upgrades. Work collaboratively with other engineers, sharing knowledge and helping maintain a high standard of technical service.
