About The Role
The Hosting IT Security Engineer (m/w/d) at DLR GfR mbH is a vital position responsible for safeguarding the company's IT infrastructure, particularly focusing on network and server security within the Galileo satellite operations. This role involves supporting cross-departmental coordination, developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation of systems and network architecture, and ensuring the implementation of robust security measures. The engineer will administer both Windows and Linux server environments, plan and execute system enhancements, and uphold stringent IT security standards aligned with organizational policies and international regulations. Key responsibilities include monitoring security events, analyzing logs for potential threats, and providing timely reports and escalations to the Hosting Security Manager. The role emphasizes continuous improvement of security protocols, network optimization, and the development of strategic cybersecurity initiatives to support the company's long-term objectives. Initially, this position is limited to a two-year contract, offering an opportunity to contribute to critical aerospace security projects.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate holds a completed university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with a focus on network security or IT security. A minimum of three years of professional experience in IT security is required, demonstrating a solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices. Proficiency with virtualization technologies such as Proxmox and VMware is essential, along with hands-on experience configuring and maintaining network components like switches and firewalls. Candidates should possess strong skills in managing Windows and Linux server environments and be familiar with common cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies. Knowledge of national legal frameworks and international standards in information security is necessary. Certifications relevant to IT security, such as CISSP, CEH, or CompTIA Security+, are highly desirable. The role requires excellent analytical skills, quick comprehension of complex technical issues, and the ability to adapt to new projects and emerging technologies swiftly. Additionally, traits such as discretion, reliability, negotiation skills, teamwork, independence, and problem-solving capabilities are critical. Fluency in both German and English, in spoken and written form, is mandatory.

Responsibilities
- Assist in cross-departmental coordination and collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure security requirements are met.
- Create, update, and maintain detailed documentation of the system landscape and network infrastructure.
- Administer and support Windows and Linux server environments, ensuring stability and security.
- Plan, design, and implement system requirements for system expansion and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with IT security policies and standards across network and server infrastructures.
- Monitor security events and analyze logs to detect potential threats or vulnerabilities.
- Prepare reports, document incidents, and escalate security issues promptly to the Hosting Security Manager.
- Continuously optimize network performance and security measures in line with evolving threats and organizational policies.
- Develop and refine cybersecurity strategies and services to support the company's medium- and long-term security objectives.
