Location: Remote
Engagement: Contract / Full-time
Experience: 3+ years in VoIP/telephony, with hands-on Jambonz experience

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Jambonz / VoIP Engineer who understands the architecture behind modern cloud-based voice systems and can build, integrate, troubleshoot, and scale Jambonz-based communications platforms.

This role is ideal for someone who has worked hands-on with Jambonz, FreeSWITCH, SIP, WebSockets, Node.js, and telephony infrastructure, particularly in environments involving AI voice agents or programmable communications.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, configure, and maintain Jambonz-based voice architectures
- Work with Jambonz SBC, FreeSWITCH, SIP signaling, RTP/media, and call routing
- Develop and maintain Jambonz applications using Node.js/JavaScript
- Integrate Jambonz with SIP trunks, telephony carriers, and external APIs
- Build call flows, IVR systems, call routing, conferencing, recording, and other voice applications
- Integrate STT, TTS, LLMs, and AI voice services into telephony workflows
- Troubleshoot SIP signaling, media, call quality, connectivity, and deployment issues
- Work with WebSockets and real-time communication systems
- Deploy and maintain services using Docker and/or Kubernetes
- Monitor, optimize, and scale voice infrastructure
- Understand how Jambonz components interact across the complete call lifecycle
- Collaborate with backend engineers and product teams to deliver production-ready voice solutions

Required Skills

Must have:

- Hands-on experience with Jambonz
- Strong understanding of Jambonz architecture
- Strong SIP/VoIP/telephony knowledge
- Experience with FreeSWITCH
- Strong Node.js / JavaScript skills
- Experience working with REST APIs and WebSockets
- Experience with SIP trunks and telecom providers
- Experience troubleshooting real-time voice systems
- Familiarity with Linux and cloud infrastructure
- Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes

Nice to have:

- Experience building AI voice agents
- Experience with OpenAI/LLM integrations
- Experience with STT/TTS platforms
- Experience with Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, or similar telecom platforms
- AWS/GCP/Azure experience
- Experience operating high-volume production telephony systems

What We're Looking For

We are specifically looking for someone who can understand and work with the underlying architecture, rather than someone who has only followed Jambonz tutorials or used its APIs.

You should be comfortable answering questions such as:

- How does a call flow through the Jambonz architecture?
- How do Jambonz, FreeSWITCH, the SBC, SIP trunk, and application server interact?
- How would you troubleshoot a call that connects but has no audio?
- How would you integrate an AI voice agent into a Jambonz call?
- How would you design Jambonz infrastructure to handle increasing call volume?

Application

Please include:

1. Your CV/GitHub/LinkedIn
2. Your experience with Jambonz
3. A brief description of a Jambonz project you have worked on
4. Your experience with SIP, FreeSWITCH, and Node.js
5. Your availability and expected hourly/monthly rate

Important: Candidates without practical Jambonz experience may not be suitable for this role.
