About The Company

ArisZincGroup connects experienced technology professionals with opportunities to contribute to complex, meaningful projects. In this role, you will support Services Australia development teams in delivering and maintaining enterprise applications that underpin important government services. The work calls for technical expertise, thoughtful collaboration and a strong commitment to secure, accessible and high-quality digital outcomes.

About The Role

ArisZincGroup is seeking a Senior Java Developer to provide technical leadership across the design, development, testing and maintenance of enterprise Java/J2EE and Angular applications. You will help deliver reliable software within established agency environments, take ownership of technical outcomes, and work closely with developers and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.

This is a hybrid contract opportunity available across WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, NT, SA and TAS. The initial term is 12 months, with extensions possible up to a total of 24 months. A current Baseline security clearance is required before commencing, or candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary clearance.

Qualifications

You will bring extensive Java development experience, including at least five years working with relevant enterprise technologies. Your background should include Java, Spring or Spring Boot, J2EE, Angular, RESTful services, web service standards, JPA, JDBC, SQL and relational databases such as IBM DB2. Experience with JSP, JSF, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, JMS and technical integration frameworks will be valuable.

Familiarity with Node.js, NestJS, MongoDB, API Connect, CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Bamboo, ALM, SVN or GitLab is also beneficial. You should have a demonstrated track record delivering solutions through Agile software development, systems development and testing methodologies, supported by clear technical documentation and sound release management practices.

A relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science or software engineering is preferred, though equivalent industry experience will be considered. Knowledge of Australian Government security, privacy and accessibility expectations is desirable. Relevant Java, cloud, Agile or DevOps certifications are advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain robust back-end services using Java, Spring Boot and related frameworks, alongside responsive, dynamic and accessible user interfaces using Angular and other modern front-end technologies. Write clean, maintainable, testable code and contribute to code reviews, automated testing and continuous improvement of development standards.

Lead technical analysis, solution design, prototyping, development, unit testing and maintenance activities. Assess complex requirements, recommend suitable approaches and develop highly complex custom, conversion or migration solutions. Resolve technical issues and defects while ensuring solutions align with approved methodologies, security practices and project objectives.

Plan and coordinate application releases, provide go-live support, and contribute to ongoing maintenance of critical systems. Work across the Government software development lifecycle, take accountability for delivery outcomes, and monitor the application of team standards. Share expertise through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer, including support for less experienced developers and APS staff. Communicate technical concepts clearly to business and technical stakeholders.

Benefits

Contribute to technology that supports essential public services while working with experienced development teams on complex enterprise systems. The hybrid arrangement offers location flexibility across multiple Australian jurisdictions, and the contract provides an initial 12-month engagement with potential extensions. You will also have opportunities to apply your technical leadership, strengthen delivery practices and support the professional development of colleagues.

Equal Opportunity

ArisZincGroup warmly welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, including First Nations Australians, Australian Defence Force and First Responder veterans, women in STEM, and people of all abilities, including those registered with the NDIS. We value inclusive workplaces and encourage candidates to apply. Please submit your application with a one-page pitch addressing the essential criteria, together with the required clearance, referee and eligibility information.
