Java Developer - Fraud Engineering (all genders)

About the team:

Fraud Engineering develops technology and internal capabilities that support fraud detection and prevention across our e-commerce business. Our work includes services that generate risk scores and assessments, as well as tooling that helps teams review cases, manage fraud signals, and respond to emerging risks.

We work closely with analytics, operational, and business stakeholders, giving engineers valuable insight into how technical decisions perform in practice. This connection between engineering, data, and real-world outcomes makes the work both technically challenging and highly relevant to the business.

The role:

You will develop and maintain our core fraud detection service, a Java and Spring Boot application at the center of our fraud technology landscape.

This is a hands-on role in which you will take responsibility for features from technical design and implementation through deployment and production support. You will also contribute to architectural decisions, engineering standards, and the continued development of our technical capabilities.

What you’ll do:

• Design, build, and maintain Java and Spring Boot services and APIs that support risk scoring and fraud assessments.
• Translate fraud rules, signals, and business requirements into reliable, observable, and performant production solutions.
• Build and improve internal tooling used to review cases, manage rules, and act on fraud alerts.
• Integrate our services with internal platforms and third-party risk providers.
• Help maintain the reliability of our production services through monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with analytics, operational, and business stakeholders to understand the data and processes behind the technical requirements.
• Review code, contribute to technical and architectural decisions, and support the development of colleagues through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
• Identify opportunities to improve our services, engineering practices, and fraud prevention capabilities.

What we’re looking for:

Must have

• Several years of experience building backend services with Java 17 or later, with a strong understanding of Java and the JVM.
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.
• Experience designing REST APIs and working with relational databases and SQL.
• A strong approach to software quality, including unit and integration testing as part of the development process.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, containers, and regular production deployments.
• Experience operating production services, including working with logs and metrics and investigating production issues.
• An interest in understanding the data and business context behind technical requirements, rather than focusing only on individual development tasks.
• Professional working proficiency in English, which is our working language.

Nice to have

• Experience in fraud prevention, risk, payments, or e-commerce.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Experience with rules or decision engines, or with integrating analytical or machine learning models into production systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure.
• Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code.
• Confidence working with data, including advanced SQL, data pipelines, or analytics tooling.
