About The Role
This is a hands-on senior engineering position for an experienced Java developer who enjoys taking ownership from initial requirements through to production. You will contribute across the full development lifecycle: understanding problems, shaping technical designs, modelling data, building APIs and business logic, testing changes, reviewing code and supporting safe releases.
You will work on new features for a Java and Spring Boot SaaS platform, partnering with product, design and clinical colleagues to turn user and business needs into dependable software. The role also includes investigating production issues and client-reported problems, helping the team maintain a high standard of service while continuing to deliver improvements. Seniority here means technical ownership and collaborative leadership, while remaining actively involved in writing and delivering code.
Qualifications
You will bring at least five years of commercial Java development experience, including recent work building application features and business logic for a product. You should have strong core Java knowledge, including object-oriented design, collections, exceptions, immutability and an understanding of concurrency fundamentals.
Practical Spring Boot experience is important, particularly across Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA or Hibernate, and Spring Security. You will be comfortable designing REST APIs and domain models, and have good SQL skills covering relational schema design, indexes, transactions and the investigation of slow queries. PostgreSQL experience is ideal.
You should also have developer-level AWS experience and understand how an application runs in a cloud environment. A clear understanding of security best practices, experience owning features through to production, and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues are essential. A collaborative mindset and a pragmatic approach to improving existing systems will help you succeed.
