About the Role

The Junior Application Developer helps design, build, and support the applications that power the organization's healthcare, revenue cycle, and internal operational workflows. This role works closely with the Director of Technology Delivery & Innovation, senior developers, IT Operations, Data Management, and business stakeholders to learn the codebase and contribute to solutions from concept through production.

This is a hands-on, growth-oriented role on a small team within an established IT organization, with close mentorship from senior developers and technical leadership. The environment includes a hybrid on-prem and cloud infrastructure that is actively evolving toward faster iteration, simplified processes, and expanded use of AI in the delivery workflow. The successful candidate will help maintain existing systems while building the skills to support their modernization.

The ideal candidate is eager to learn, comfortable asking questions, and motivated to grow into greater ownership while adhering to integration, security, data governance, and compliance standards.

Technical Environment

This role operates across two primary environments:

  • Microsoft-centric enterprise estate:
  • MSSQL, .NET/C#, and related enterprise tooling supporting core revenue-generating workflows.
  • Modern cloud-native stack:
  • JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, and cloud-native services (AWS / Azure / GCP), including REST APIs, JSON/XML interfaces, and container-based deployments.

The role requires familiarity with both environments. Candidates should have hands-on experience (through coursework, internships, or personal projects) with at least one, along with a willingness to learn the other.

Responsibilities

Application Development

  • Design, develop, test, and support features within enterprise applications serving healthcare, RCM, and operational workflows, under the guidance of senior developers.
  • Work with senior developers to translate requirements into clear technical tasks and shipped features.
  • Participate in architecture and design conversations across engineering, data, and business teams, building an understanding of simplicity and long-term maintainability.
  • Contribute to cross-functional discussions, partnering with IT Operations, Data Management, and Architecture to understand integration contracts, security standards, and data governance decisions.
  • Support the application lifecycle, gaining exposure to performance, security, reliability, compliance, and long-term supportability.

Automation, AI & Process Optimization

  • Help identify automation opportunities and support their implementation with a focus on reducing manual effort and improving accuracy.
  • Use AI-assisted development and automation techniques to improve delivery speed and outcomes.
  • Assist in building internal tooling and workflows that improve operational efficiency and support AI-enabled decision-making.
  • Support ongoing efforts to evaluate and improve processes for scalability without adding operational overhead.

Integrations, Interfaces & Data Enablement

  • Help design and maintain secure integrations with vendors, partners, and internal systems, including APIs, background jobs, and data pipelines.
  • Support healthcare data exchange using standard protocols including HL7, X12 5010, FHIR, and eligibility workflows.
  • Partner with IT Operations and Data Management to align application outputs with ELT pipelines, data architecture standards (Medallion: Bronze / Silver / Gold), and analytics and reporting needs.
  • Support data interfaces including imports, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance across hybrid environments.

Quality Engineering, CI/CD & Documentation

  • Write clear, correct code and take part in code reviews to build strong long-term maintainability habits.
  • Help develop and validate test cases to support high-quality releases.
  • Debug and help resolve issues across application, integration, and data layers, with support from senior team members.
  • Participate in Agile development practices, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and change-management processes consistent with a regulated healthcare environment.
  • Maintain clear, lightweight technical and operational documentation to support long-term team continuity.

Work Culture & Environment

  • Small team with a collaborative, low-bureaucracy culture, operating within defined guardrails around security, compliance, and data governance.
  • Growing autonomy over design patterns, implementation choices, and day-to-day technical decisions, with mentorship from senior developers and within agreed architecture and security standards.
  • Integration contracts, security requirements, and data architecture standards are established in partnership with Architecture, IT Operations, and Data Management.
  • Agile/startup mindset: ship small, measure outcomes, iterate fast. Success metrics are defined before development begins.
  • Pragmatic decision-making balanced with a strong emphasis on maintenance, reliability, and long-term system health.
  • Active and deliberate adoption of AI tools to improve speed, quality, and output.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 0-2 years of experience delivering software in a professional, academic, or internship setting.
  • Some hands-on experience building automation solutions (coursework, internships, or personal projects welcome).
  • Experience building backend or full-stack applications in .NET/C# on MSSQL, or JavaScript/TypeScript on a modern database, with willingness to learn both.
  • Exposure to Python, SQL, and REST APIs / JSON-XML integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and container-based or cloud-native deployments.
  • Interest in learning to design and support system integrations and external vendor interfaces.
  • Understanding of networking and security fundamentals (TCP/IP, SSL, SSH, SFTP).
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards and transactions (HL7, X12 5010).
  • Version control fluency (Git) and comfort with PR-based review workflows.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) or adjacent domains.
  • Understanding of modern cloud data platforms and Medallion architecture standards (Bronze / Silver / Gold) including Snowflake, dbt, and ELT/ETL pipeline orchestration.
  • Coursework, internship, or project experience building applications that support analytics, automation, or AI-driven workflows.
  • Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Tabnine, Claude Code).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Experience with Agile tools such as Jira.
  • Exposure to startup or high-growth environments within a larger enterprise context.

Location & Schedule

  • Primarily remote with close ongoing collaboration across engineering, data, product, business, and clinical teams.
  • Eastern Time Zone alignment required; Atlanta-based candidates strongly preferred.
  • Fast-paced, supportive environment within an established IT organization, focused on adaptability, continuous learning, and operating effectively in a regulated industry.
