We are seeking a motivated Junior Accountant to join the finance team of an established multinational retail business.
Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will support the preparation of monthly management accounts, maintain accurate financial records and help analyse performance across departments and stores.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone developing their accounting career who wants practical experience, professional study support and the opportunity to take on greater responsibility. You will gain broad exposure to a multi-site retail business and see how your work supports commercial decisions.

- Support the month-end close and preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Complete quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating differences and resolving outstanding items.
- Maintain clear supporting records for accounting entries and reconciliations.
Business Performance and Analysis
- Assist the Financial Controller in reviewing monthly profit and loss results against budget.
- Investigate significant variances and prepare clear explanations of financial movements.
- Prepare supporting schedules and analysis for the Financial Controller’s review.
- Generate departmental and store profit and loss reports once monthly results have been approved.
- Distribute reports to Department Heads and Regional Managers, helping address queries on costs, performance and variances.
Property Costs and Fixed Assets
- Review property-related invoices and arrange approval in line with internal procedures.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly property payment schedules.
- Reconcile property invoices against payments and follow up on discrepancies.
- Update the fixed asset register quarterly, accurately recording additions, disposals and other movements.
Finance Team Support
- Support ad hoc reporting, analysis and finance projects.
- Help improve the accuracy and efficiency of accounting processes and reporting.
- Work with colleagues across the business to resolve finance queries.
- Build your knowledge of the wider finance function and take on additional responsibilities as your experience develops.
About You
You will be working towards a recognised accounting qualification, such as ACCA, ACA or CIMA, or may have recently qualified and be seeking a role that broadens your practical experience.
You will bring:
- A sound understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with an interest in business performance.
- Good Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and an organised approach to managing deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues outside finance.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn and confidence to investigate discrepancies.
- Previous experience using an accounting or ERP system would be an advantage.
What’s on Offer
- Support towards professional accounting qualifications, including payment of ACCA examination fees.
- Direct guidance and support from the Financial Controller.
- Practical experience in management accounts, financial reporting and commercial analysis.
- Exposure to the finance operations of a multinational retail business.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and take on increasing responsibility.
