About Aldebaran

Aldebaran is a specialist geopolitical risk and intelligence firm providing decision-makers with trusted intelligence in some of the world's most complex and high-risk environments.

We support governments, multinational organizations, and senior corporate and security stakeholders with timely, high-resolution intelligence on political, security, and economic developments. Our work enables clients to anticipate emerging risks, assess their operational and strategic implications, and make informed decisions in rapidly evolving environments.

Our intelligence is built on dedicated country expertise, established local networks, structured data, and rigorous human-led analysis. By combining continuous monitoring with deep contextual understanding, we provide granular insight into the actors, events, and dynamics shaping the environments in which our clients operate.

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Security Analyst to monitor and analyze news, social media, and other information sources for security-related incidents and political developments, with a primary focus on Africa and other countries of interest.

The successful candidate will also supervise junior researchers, provide support to other country services, and help maintain the quality and integrity of daily intelligence reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review news, social media, and other information sources for security-related incidents and political developments.
  • Present and summarize information from multiple sources in English according to company reporting and formatting standards.
  • Accurately classify information according to the company's established methodology.
  • Assess the significance of security incidents based on available information.
  • Ensure timely publication of information within required reporting timelines.
  • Maintain the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data and reporting for assigned countries.
  • Lead the Africa service, including quality control of logs, preparation and publication of alerts and SITREPs, and assistance with weekly, biweekly, and bespoke reports.
  • Supervise and guide a team of junior researchers.
  • Support other country services through closed-source research and analysis.
  • Provide additional regional assistance as required.
  • Coordinate with company employees and other contractors to maintain a consistent daily reporting schedule.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A background in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Journalism, History, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in research, security analysis, journalism, intelligence, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of or experience covering the Africa region.
  • Experience with incident monitoring, political risk, conflict analysis, or security reporting.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior researchers.
Working Hours and Setup
  • Approximately 40 hours per week, coordinated with company employees and other contractors to ensure continuity of daily reporting.
  • Additional hours may occasionally be required depending on the reasonable scope of work and urgent developments.
  • The company respects employees' and contractors' time off. However, reasonable communication outside working hours may occasionally be required in response to urgent developments.
  • This position is designed for remote work, with occasional travel for meetings with the team.
What We Offer
  • The opportunity to work on intelligence products that directly support strategic decision-making for globally recognized clients.
  • A fully remote work environment, providing flexibility to live and work from a location that best suits you while collaborating with an international team.
  • Opportunities for international travel to countries within your area of responsibility and to company events.
  • A collaborative, diverse, and supportive culture that values expertise, initiative, and continuous learning.
  • Professional development opportunities through training, certifications, and exposure to complex geopolitical issues.
  • Comprehensive medical and wellness benefits.
  • Generous paid leave, including 30 days of annual leave and 10 days of paid sick leave.
