Junior Associate Attorney for a Small Domestic Relations Firm
We are looking for a 1st-year associate attorney to join our team in November 2022 - someone who values flexibility, wellness, work-life integration, professional growth, and a collaborative work environment. For us, work-life integration means bringing work and life closer together. Rather than drawing lines between set, rigid “work time” and “personal time,” professionals can often tackle their responsibilities at the times that work well for them.
Nielsen Law is a modern, collaborative, tech-forward, and client-focused law firm. We often take on some of the most difficult divorce, custody, and domestic violence cases; while the subject matter is often emotional, the work is incredibly rewarding. We strive to give our clients the best possible foundation for the next stage of their lives.
Our founder has a degree in education and is a former classroom teacher at the grade-school and university levels. This has had a big role in our success and growth. We value client education and offer ongoing training and professional development for our employees.
Because of our focus on technology, the firm was well-positioned to pivot to remote work during the worst of the pandemic. We found that this flexibility added to better work-life integration, and in addition to office workspace, remote work is a benefit that we now offer to all of our employees.
Qualification requirements:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited university by Summer 2022
- License to practice law in Ohio by November 2022
- 1+ year of litigation experience and/or 6 months of family law experience
- Knowledge of Ohio family law
Qualification Preferences: The ideal candidate will be compassionate, service-oriented, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be teachable, and be proficient in the use of technology. We prefer candidates with knowledge of family law, an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, experience working in litigation and/or experience working in family law. Experience in moot court, law clinics, trial advocacy, and internships will be considered when evaluating candidate experience working in litigation or family law.
Job Description:
- Must be teachable, open to feedback, and willing to take on new challenges
- Represent family law clients under the supervision of senior attorneys
- Draft and revise documents
- Maintain excellent communication with clients
- Travel to court for hearings in Franklin and surrounding counties
- Negotiate with opposing counsel and pro se opposing parties
- Participate in depositions
- Other tasks as determined by the managing attorney
- The associate will be expected to diligently hone their case management and trial advocacy skills.
Benefits - We offer a robust package of employee wellness benefits so that you are cared for as you care for our clients:
- Lower weekly billable hour requirement than most firms
- Paid time off
- Remote work
- Fully paid employee insurances: health, dental, vision, life, supplemental, short-term disability, and Employee Assistance Program
- Health Savings Account with matching
- 401(k) with matching
- Bonuses
Starting yearly salary begins at $45,000 for minimally experienced candidates, and will depend on level of experience in litigation, family law, and/or trial advocacy.
