Border is growing! We have an open position for a Junior Data Analyst (Big Data & AI)
Border creates solutions that help people and businesses stay connected.
We build digital products and provide expert consulting to prestigious clients, from our bright and sunny office by the river in Parque das Nações, Lisbon.
The way data work is done has changed.
At Border, analysts work alongside AI agents every day. Agents write much of the SQL, code and charts; people decide which questions matter, whether the numbers are right, and what they mean for the client.
We’re looking for a junior who wants to learn data work this way, joining our data consulting team to build Big Data and AI solutions for our customers.
What you’ll be doing
- Turning client questions into clear analysis plans, then carrying them out with AI tools (Claude, Cursor, notebooks with AI assistants or similar)
- Checking AI-generated queries, code and results: catching bad joins, missing data, wrong totals and misleading charts
- Exploring, cleaning and modelling large datasets, and building dashboards and visualizations that answer real business questions
- Helping build AI solutions for clients, from classic machine learning to LLM-based assistants and agents, and measuring whether they actually work
- Presenting findings to clients and teammates, clearly and honestly, including what the data can’t tell us
- Sharing what you learn about working with AI in our consulting team
What you’ll need
- Responsibility and ownership: you own your results, including the queries and numbers an AI produced for you. If a number is wrong, it’s yours to find, fix and explain
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent proof of real data projects you’ve done
- Solid fundamentals: SQL, Python, basic statistics. You don’t need to know everything by heart, but you must be able to tell when an AI got it wrong
- Machine learning basics: how models are trained and evaluated, and common mistakes like overfitting and data leakage
- Hands-on experience using AI tools for data work, and examples you can show us (notebooks, repos, dashboards, how you worked)
- A critical, pragmatic eye: you sanity-check numbers before you trust them
- Clear communication in Portuguese (fluent) and English (good, spoken and written)
Nice to have
- Big Data tools such as Spark or Databricks, and cloud data platforms
- Splunk: searching with SPL, building dashboards and analysing log and machine data
- A BI tool (Power BI, Tableau or similar)
- Experience building with LLMs: retrieval (RAG), agents, evaluating outputs
How we hire
You can use AI in our technical exercise. We’ll then ask you to walk us through your results, defend the numbers, and review a piece of AI-written analysis with us.
What we offer
- Hybrid work model (remote + office)
- Above-market salary (according to experience) and productivity prizes
- Access to the latest AI tools
- Mentorship from senior consultants on judgment, not just tools
- Training and certifications, and lots of knowledge sharing
- Social and team-building events
- Fruit, coffee and snacks, a kitchenette, a leisure room (table tennis and snooker) and a nap room
