Junior Database Engineer

Every litre sold at our stations becomes a row in our own database. So does every tank reading and every price change. When a number in that database is wrong, finance, operations and the Ministry of Energy all see the wrong number. We're looking for someone who wants to be the person who makes sure it's right.

About Pure-IN

Pure-IN (وقود العربية) runs fuel stations across four regions around Jeddah. We're bringing our fuel management system in-house. Controllers at each station report every sale and tank reading to our own servers in Saudi Arabia, and our prices have to match the Ministry of Energy's records. We're a small team building it ourselves, so your work goes live and gets used.

The role

In a year, you'll own our PostgreSQL database. You'll have moved the full history out of an old system and proved every total still matches. You'll have built the checks that catch a bad number before anyone else sees it. When someone on the team asks "is this number right?", you'll be the one who knows. You'll work with one other developer and the IT & Software Manager. You'll use AI coding tools like Claude Code and Codex every day and review every line they write.

What you'll do

• Change the database schema through versioned migration scripts, never by hand.
• Own the data migration from our old MySQL system to PostgreSQL: rehearse it, run it, and prove the totals match.
• Make sure data from station controllers is stored exactly once, even when a controller sends the same thing twice.
• Write the automated checks that run on every change, covering sales totals, tank readings and time zones.
• Manage database users and permissions so each part of the system sees only what it needs.
• Look after backups, restores and query speed as the data grows.

What's hard about it

Part of the system is inherited code we're still untangling. Money and Ministry prices run through it, so every change is reviewed and tested, and you'll often hear "show me how you checked that." It's a small team, so you'll own real things early.

You have

• A degree in computer science, IT or software engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• At least one project you can show us where you designed the tables yourself, in PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• A GitHub or GitLab profile with your own commits.
• Regular use of an AI coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar), and a project you built with one.
• Working Arabic and English.
• A home in Jeddah, or a plan to move here. Most of the work is remote, with some days on site.

Nice to have

• PostgreSQL experience in particular: roles and permissions, migrations, reading query plans (EXPLAIN).
• Scripting in Python, PHP or Node.
• Linux and SSH, and something you've deployed to a server yourself.
• Experience moving data from one database to another.
• Anything that talks to hardware: IoT, sensors, Arduino, serial devices.
