Junior Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Mechanical Engineer functions as an integral part of the design team for Fed-Florida Business Unit projects. Technical duties in Mechanical engineering require adaptability and versatility. Examples of the type of work to be performed include the design of mechanical and plumbing components and systems; engineering calculations and analysis of thermal and fluid dynamics; development of HVAC system designs for a variety of facility types; and fire protection and life safety system design and integration. Additional responsibilities encompass the evaluation and selection of mechanical equipment, energy efficiency analysis, coordination of mechanical systems with other disciplines, construction administration and field support, as well as facility condition assessments and capital asset management planning for mechanical infrastructure.

This position operationally reports to the Director of Mechanical Engineering Design Operations.

Technical Responsibilities (85-90%):

  • Project Support: Assist our engineering teams in various phases of project development, from concept design to implementation and testing. Ensure project team members create deliverables that meet or exceed the customer’s expectations and standards. Own issues and drive them to resolution with internal and external customers.
  • Collaboration: Work independently but be quick to ask questions and draw upon the best internal, customer, and industry resources to meet customer requirements accurately and efficiently. Build and maintain healthy, long term, professional relationships with coworkers, customers, suppliers, and industry partners. Maintain excellent composure, especially under pressure.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and progress reports.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively in person and in writing to keep customers, contractors, and project teams well informed of pertinent information in a timely manner. Assumes responsibility for filling in gaps in customer communication.
  • Innovation: Foster an environment where new ideas are discussed and developed collaboratively. They will help others overcome resistance to change. The candidate will be dedicated to creating solutions to customers' problems.
  • Participates in Fed-Florida QC Program providing final approval of all Mechanical work products, performing Chief Engineer responsibilities, and/or performing Design Manager responsibilities when assigned (reference "Project Quality Control Policies and Processes").
  • Ensure adherence to Fed-Florida’s quality control standards, including pass-through services/consulting.

Operational Responsibilities (10-15%)

  • Assists the Director of Mechanical Engineering in specialized projects to advance the growth of Fed-Florida. These tasks may include but are not limited to mentoring interns/new hires, providing input for process improvements, assisting in the development of our continuously growing training program.

Qualifications:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering degree required from an ABET-accredited program
  • Up to five years of professional Mechanical Engineering experience
  • EIT Certification preferred but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications
  • Should have working knowledge of the ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, NEC, UFC, and UFC codes; with a preference for knowledge of the FBC, IBC, IMC, and IPC, and AFMAN/SSMAN requirements.
  • Experience with CAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu, or other Mechanical system modeling/drafting software is highly preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Valid/Unrestricted FL driver license

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

  • Must be a US Citizen for Security Clearance requirements.
  • Active/Interim or ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance.

Location: Merritt Island, FL/Bethesda, MD

Travel: Up to 25%

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected base salary range for this role in Merritt Island is $72,000-$80,000 USD per year and in Bethesda is $80,000-$95,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
