Program Overview

WRI India’s Integrated Transport Program supports India’s decarbonization journey through effective, equitable, and inclusive mobility solutions. The program focuses on advancing sustainable urban transport, including electrification of public transport, clean air initiatives, and hydrogen economy. It emphasizes strategic research, policy support, and capacity building to enable systemic changes at the sub-national level and accelerate electric mobility adoption.

Job Highlight:

WRI India is seeking a Junior Program Associate for the Sustainable Cities and Transport Program to support the e-FAST India initiative under its Freight Electrification program. e-FAST India works with stakeholders across the freight ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks (e-MHDTs). The candidate will support research and analysis, data collection, stakeholder engagement, and the development and delivery of project activities and knowledge products. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to practical, evidence-based approaches for freight decarbonisation while working with government, industry, and other ecosystem partners.

What You will Do:

· Conduct desk research on freight decarbonisation, e-MHDTs, freight operations, charging infrastructure, fleet transition pathways, financing, and relevant policy and market developments.

· Support e-FAST India platform activities, including stakeholder outreach, partner coordination, onboarding, consultations, meetings, workshops, and events.

· Assist in engaging with government agencies, shippers, logistics service providers, vehicle manufacturers, charging-point operators, financiers, and other ecosystem stakeholders to gather inputs and understand their priorities.

· Collect, organise, clean, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data related to freight movement, fleet operations, e-MHDT pilots, route and corridor electrification, vehicle performance, charging requirements, and techno-economic feasibility.

· Support the development and implementation of data-collection tools such as surveys, interview guides, and partner information templates; identify alternative data sources and assist with field-level data collection where required.

· Contribute to mapping freight routes and corridors, e-MHDT pilots, charging infrastructure, and other relevant ecosystem information to inform research and project activities.

· Translate research and stakeholder inputs into clear findings, charts, and actionable insights; prepare presentations, reports, policy briefs, technical notes, meeting summaries, and other project collaterals.

· Support the planning, documentation, and follow-up of project activities, including maintaining records of stakeholder interactions, tracking action points, and coordinating inputs and deliverables with internal and external teams.

· Contribute to communications and knowledge-sharing materials that explain e-FAST India’s work and developments in freight electrification to technical and non-technical audiences.

What You will Need:

· Master’s degree in transport planning, transport engineering, urban planning, public policy, energy, logistics, economics, or a related discipline; candidates with 0–2 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

· Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, including the ability to collect, organise, interpret, and synthesise information from multiple sources.

· Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, is essential.

· Strong writing, analytical, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.

· An understanding of freight transport, logistics, electric mobility, charging infrastructure, or transport decarbonisation is desirable.

· Experience with data analysis or visualisation tools such as advanced Excel, Power BI, R, Python, or Stata is an advantage.

· Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and engage professionally with stakeholders from government, industry, research, and civil society.

· Willingness to support stakeholder consultations, workshops, and field-based data collection, including occasional travel, as required.
