Junior Software Engineer

About the Role

Vega Networks is an exciting and dynamic organization that is shaping the future of broadband and wireless network connectivity. We are looking for a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our engineering team. This is an entry-level opportunity for a recent graduate who is passionate about software development, interested in data engineering, and excited about using AI-assisted development tools to become a more productive and effective engineer.

You will work alongside experienced software and data engineers to develop backend services, data pipelines, APIs, and data processing solutions. You will also learn how to effectively use modern AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle—from understanding requirements and writing code to testing, debugging, documentation, and code review.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and backend services.
• Build and maintain data pipelines for collecting, transforming, and processing data.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Write and optimize SQL queries for data extraction and transformation.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Contribute to ETL/ELT workflows and data integration projects.
• Develop and consume REST APIs.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve development productivity, code quality, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Evaluate and validate AI-generated code rather than relying on AI output without review.
• Use AI tools to explore unfamiliar codebases, understand technical concepts, generate test cases, identify potential issues, and improve existing code.
• Participate in code reviews and apply software engineering best practices.
• Monitor application and data pipeline performance and help troubleshoot issues.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, QA engineers, and product teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of fundamental software engineering concepts.
• Good programming skills in Python, Java, or Go.
• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.
• Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts.
• Understanding of software development practices including version control, testing, debugging, and clean code.
• Basic understanding of databases and data modeling.
• Familiarity with Git and common development workflows.
• Interest in using AI coding assistants and developer tools as part of the software development process.
• Ability to critically review, test, and validate AI-generated code and explanations.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and work in a collaborative engineering environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

• Academic or personal projects involving data engineering, ETL/ELT, or data pipelines.
• Experience with Python data-processing libraries, such as Pandas.
• Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging/stream-processing technologies.
• Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or ClickHouse.
• Basic knowledge of Docker and containerized applications.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and automated testing.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar tools.
