Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

About the role:

We’re looking for a Junior Storage Originator to join our Refining & Products Trading, Europe & Africa (RPTE&A) team.

This is an exciting opportunity to build your commercial experience within a dynamic trading environment, working closely with our Trading and Origination teams and gaining exposure to a significant portfolio of tankage and infrastructure agreements.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Commercial Logistics, you’ll help manage a portfolio spanning around 50 terminals and 75–100 active contracts, which plays a critical role in enabling the team’s trading activities.

We’re looking for someone who brings a strong combination of commercial thinking and technical understanding, ideally supported by experience in terminal operations. You’ll also be confident building trusted external relationships, spotting opportunities and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

What you’ll do:

You’ll support the management and development of storage and logistics opportunities across Northwest Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting commercial discussions and contract negotiations with third-party terminal and logistics providers.
  • Monitoring existing storage and infrastructure contracts and finding opportunities to improve their commercial and operational value.
  • Working with trading teams to assess contract options, renewals and new storage opportunities.
  • Gathering relevant market and industry information to support commercial decisions and trading strategy.
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with terminals, service providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Helping resolve contractual or operational issues by working with Operations, Cargo Assurance, HSSE and other specialist teams.
  • Coordinating terminal and project reviews, bringing together expertise from Operations, Engineering, Cargo Assurance and HSSE.
  • Overseeing third-party projects to help ensure delivery against contractual agreements.
  • Keeping trading teams and management informed about the progress of commercial opportunities and projects.
  • Working with colleagues across Legal, Tax, Finance, Operations and Commercial Development to obtain approvals and develop appropriate commercial structures.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely commercial and administrative records.
  • Contributing to the assessment and development of opportunities across the wider origination portfolio.

What you’ll bring:

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Experience in terminal operations, or strong practical knowledge of the regional storage and logistics environment.
  • Experience building and managing effective relationships with external organisations.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to assess opportunities, solve problems and negotiate effectively.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, including the ability to review contracts and interrogate datasets.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel and Word, including reviewing and marking up documents.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and contribute across several teams or projects.
  • A proactive approach, resilience and the motivation to pursue opportunities and overcome obstacles.
  • A degree or relevant transferable business experience.

It would also be helpful if you have

  • Project management experience.
  • An understanding of commercial risk and reward.
  • Experience identifying and delivering commercial value.
  • Knowledge of trading environments, including relevant controls and regulatory considerations.
  • A technical background in engineering, processing, oil operations, cargo assurance or terminal operations.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Additional language capabilities.
