Show job description

The Land Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating land and real estate activities for utility-scale renewable energy and battery energy storage projects, while also supporting broader project development priorities. The role will work closely with development partners, landowners, consultants, title companies, surveyors, outside counsel, and internal teams to advance site control, land diligence, and other project milestones from origination through construction readiness.

The ideal candidate brings practical experience with renewable energy land matters and strong project management capabilities. This is a versatile development role for someone comfortable moving between real estate transactions, greenfield opportunity assessment, M&A due diligence, consultant management, project controls, and other workstreams as business needs evolve.

Reports To: Head of Development

Key Responsibilities

Land & Site Control

  • Lead and coordinate land acquisition and site control strategies for project sites, gen-tie routes, access, and supporting facilities.
  • Work with development partners and land agents to advance leases, options, easements, amendments, crossing agreements, access agreements, and related land rights.
  • Coordinate title, survey, and land diligence activities, including title commitments, ALTA/NSPS surveys, legal descriptions, exhibits, and resolution of identified issues.
  • Partner with outside counsel, title companies, surveyors, and internal stakeholders to develop practical plans for title cure, consents, releases, subordinations, or other corrective actions when needed.
  • Track material land obligations, option periods, notices, payments, approvals, recording requirements, and other critical dates.
  • Maintain organized land records, status reports, risk logs, and action plans across multiple projects.

Development Partner & Consultant Management

  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for land and related development work performed by development partners.
  • Review partner and consultant deliverables for completeness and alignment with project requirements, escalate material risks, and drive open items to resolution.
  • Coordinate consistent negotiation positions, document control, diligence standards, and stakeholder communications.

Landowner & Stakeholder Relationships

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with landowners, adjacent owners, local stakeholders, utilities, road authorities, and other third parties.
  • Support landowner communications, negotiations, commitments, payment coordination, and issue resolution throughout development.
  • Work within the development team to ensure land activities are coordinated with broader community and permitting strategies.

Construction Readiness & Handoff

  • Coordinate confirmation that required land rights, access rights, surveys, title items, consents, exhibits, and recordings are sufficiently advanced for financing, NTP, and construction.
  • Prepare clear handoff materials summarizing land rights, obligations, restrictions, commitments, and unresolved risks.
  • Support construction and operations teams with landowner coordination, access issues, agreement interpretation, and post-NTP matters as needed.

Project Development Leadership

  • Advance multiple development projects by establishing priorities, schedules, budgets, milestone trackers, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across Development, Legal, Engineering, Interconnection, Environmental, Permitting, Finance, Procurement, and Construction.
  • Identify, monitor, escalate, and help mitigate risks affecting project cost, schedule, approvals, financing, or viability.
  • Prepare project updates, decision materials, and recommendations for management and investment reviews.
  • Support permitting, stakeholder engagement, commercial agreements, project controls, financing diligence, and NTP readiness as assigned.
  • Take ownership of additional development workstreams as project priorities and business needs evolve.

Greenfield Development & Opportunity Assessment

  • Support identification and screening of greenfield renewable energy and storage opportunities, including initial site, ownership, access, land use, permitting, interconnection, environmental, and stakeholder considerations.
  • Coordinate early-stage desktop diligence and consultant inputs to help determine project feasibility, risk, schedule, and development strategy.
  • Support outreach strategies, site control planning, preliminary budgets, development schedules, and internal opportunity reviews.
  • Help transition selected opportunities into structured development plans with clear milestones, responsibilities, and risk mitigation actions.

M&A and Transaction Due Diligence

  • Support acquisition and partnership evaluations by coordinating land, title, survey, permitting, environmental, interconnection, and other development diligence.
  • Review project data rooms, summarize material findings, identify information gaps, and maintain diligence trackers and risk registers.
  • Coordinate with internal subject-matter experts, outside counsel, consultants, and counterparties to resolve diligence questions and support investment decisions.
  • Assist with closing readiness, conditions precedent, transition planning, and post-closing integration of acquired projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in real estate, business, project management, planning, engineering, environmental science, law, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, energy infrastructure, real estate development, project development, or a related field.
  • Practical experience supporting land acquisition, site control, landowner agreements, title, survey, or related real estate diligence.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, counsel, development partners, landowners, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, multiple priorities, and evolving responsibilities with limited supervision.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, transmission, or other linear infrastructure is preferred.
  • Experience supporting greenfield development, project acquisitions, or transaction due diligence is preferred but not required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Working knowledge of common renewable energy land agreements and the purpose of title and survey diligence; deep technical specialization is not required.
  • Strong project management, organization, document control, scheduling, budgeting, and follow-through skills.
  • Commercial judgment and the ability to distinguish material project risks from issues that can be managed through normal development processes.
  • Ability to manage partners and consultants effectively without direct authority and to hold stakeholders accountable for commitments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with landowners, executives, counsel, technical teams, and external counterparties.
  • Comfort shifting between detailed execution and broader development strategy in a fast-moving environment.
  • Collaborative, resourceful, and willing to step into unfamiliar workstreams, engage subject-matter experts, and drive issues toward resolution.
