We're looking for a Lead Automation Tester in Java to lead and define the test automation strategy for our squad, guaranteeing confident releases across UI flows, integrations, and backend services. This position includes mentoring functional QAs on automation adoption, maintaining and building automated test suites, and championing quality engineering best practices throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve the squad's test automation strategy, covering quality gates, risk-based approach, automation coverage targets, and the test pyramid
- Establish and enforce Definition of Done quality standards, including non-functional checks, regression scope, and automation expectations
- Set up and track quality KPIs like defect leakage, flaky tests, automation pass rate, and trend reporting
- Build, maintain, and implement automated tests for RESTful APIs using JUnit
- Check authorization patterns, negative/error scenarios, backward compatibility, versioning, and API contracts
- Build strong integration test coverage for integration flows and microservices, covering data consistency, error handling, and retries
- Confirm data integrity and persistence through SQL queries against Microsoft SQL Server
- Maintain and implement dependable UI automation for key user journeys with Playwright
- Keep UI automation stable and lean, following the test pyramid to prevent overly brittle E2E coverage
- Execute and design performance/load tests through Apache JMeter, covering throughput/latency measurements, baselines, and workload models
- Embed automated suites within Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, handling scheduled runs, regression stages, and PR checks
- Guide functional QAs toward automation adoption via code reviews, pairing, clear contribution paths, and training sessions
Requirements
- At least 5 years' proven experience as an Automation QA, with ownership of automation delivery within a squad/team
- Solid expertise in Java test automation through JUnit
- Deep knowledge of API automation using Karate or RestAssured
- Background in UI automation with Playwright and best practices for CI execution
- Hands-on experience with performance testing through Apache JMeter, including analysis, execution, and test plans
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps and Git, including reporting, gating, and pipeline integration
- Strong SQL abilities and experience confirming data within Microsoft SQL Server
- Excellent collaboration and mentoring abilities, capable of elevating QA maturity across technical and functional testing
- Knowledge of Microsoft Copilot or comparable AI-assisted tools to enhance test coverage and speed up automation development
- B2-level English proficiency or above
- Fluent in Greek
