About the role:
myPOS is building a high-impact Data Science function to power the intelligence layer of one of Europe’s fastest-growing payment and commerce platforms.
As a Lead Data Scientist, you will set the standards for how we build, validate and ship models, and help the team partner effectively with business stakeholders from Customer Success, Onboarding, Product, Risk and Compliance teams.
You will take churn, customer lifecycle management, cross-sell / upsell, and customer behavior (for fraud detection and risk management) models into production and deliver measurable improvements for customers and the business.
In this role you are going to work with modern GCP tech stack including Data Lakehouse solution built with Python and BigQuery processes, MLOps pipelines utilizing Vertex ML (aka Gemini Enterprise Platform) services for exploration, training, serving and monitoring.
We also welcome senior data scientists who are ready to step into a lead role and take on people's management responsibilities.
What you’ll do:
Lead and develop the team
Lead and line manage the data science team, setting priorities, supporting development, and managing performance, while remaining hands-on.
Own technical quality across the team through code reviews, model reviews and design discussions; set standards for experimentation, validation, documentation and deployment
Help team members work effectively with business teams: framing the right problem, scoping the solution and presenting results in a way that drives decisions.
Own the model portfolio
Act as a trusted Data Science partner to senior stakeholders across the company, leading end-to-end delivery of models from initial discovery, feature engineering and model training to production, A/B testing where appropriate, and monitoring.
Prioritize and deliver a focused portfolio of models, balancing business impact, feasibility, and ongoing maintenance.
Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
Lead implementation of end-to-end ML pipelines and MLOps practices, from feature engineering through to training, evaluation, deployment and serving, in close partnership with the Data Engineering team.
Establish monitoring standards for models in production: performance degradation, data drift and data quality, with clear ownership for iteration and response.
Contribute to LLM-powered agentic workflows where they solve a clear business problem, drawing on specialist expertise as needed.
This role is perfect for you if you have:
6+ years of hands-on applied data science, machine learning or statistical modelling experience in a commercial setting, with a track record of models shipped, measured and delivering business impact in production
Experience leading or mentoring data scientists, guiding their approach and reviewing models and code.
Strong Python skills for applied data science and practical experience with common machine learning libraries (e.g. numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, XGBoost/LightGBM, etc.)
Proven experience leading the development of production models for customer behavioral analysis, churn and retention prediction, propensity or uplift modelling, and/or risk and fraud detection
Comfort working with large-scale structured and semi-structured data; proficient in SQL and cloud data warehouses. GCP and BigQuery are strongly preferred, but experience with similar technologies is welcome.
Experience deploying and operating ML models in production, including model serving and monitoring, and working with Data Engineering to deliver reliable solutions. Familiarity with MLOps practices is valuable.
Strong stakeholder management: able to influence senior stakeholders, turn ambiguous business needs into well-scoped data science problems, and distil statistical findings into actionable insights.
Nice to have:
Experience in fintech, payments, banking or e-commerce
Experience helping an early-stage Data Science function establish its practices and standards
Familiarity with workflow orchestration (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, KubeFlow)
Experience working with LLMs, RAG pipelines, or tool-use agents and taking them to production
