Lead Electrical Engineer – Buildings Aotearoa New Zealand | Buildings | Electrical Design the future with Aurecon. We’re looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our national Buildings team and provide market-facing technical leadership across electrical design, verification and client delivery in New Zealand. This is a role for someone ready to operate as a recognised technical lead in the market, shaping work winning, design direction, verification quality and client confidence across complex buildings projects. You’ll help shape smarter healthcare spaces, data centres , public infrastructure and commercial buildings that leave a legacy for communities across Aotearoa. You’ll be part of a tight-knit national team that collaborates across regions and disciplines, with access to specialists across Australia and Aurecon’s global network. What you’ll do As a Lead Electrical Engineer in our Buildings team, you’ll provide the technical leadership, client interface and verification capability required to deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients. You’ll step into a highly visible market role, leading local and national opportunities while strengthening the team’s design capability, quality standards and future growth. Technical design leadership – lead electrical design direction across small, medium and large-scale Buildings projects, setting technical standards and guiding design decisions. Verification and quality – own and lead verification, quality assurance and producer statement requirements, including work that requires local market and council-facing knowledge. Client engagement – act as a senior client-facing technical representative for Aurecon’s electrical capability in the local and wider New Zealand market. Market growth – lead and shape work winning through technical strategy, design management and confident client-facing contribution. Project lifecycle support – lead key stages of the project lifecycle, including cost estimation and budgeting, design, procurement, construction monitoring and technical governance. Inspire and guide – mentor and guide engineers across the team, helping build technical depth, confidence and leadership capability within the national Electrical Buildings team. Cross-disciplinary collaboration – collaborate across Buildings, digital, infrastructure and specialist teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality outcomes for clients. Projects and impact You’ll contribute to a strong pipeline of complex and meaningful work, including data centres , healthcare opportunities, public infrastructure and major projects such as Hawke’s Bay Men’s Prison. You’ll also support delivery and continuity across projects transitioning from existing senior team members, helping maintain quality, technical confidence and immediate billability. S ite attendance expected as required for project delivery, reviews and client engagement. What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone with deep electrical engineering experience, strong client-facing confidence and the ability to provide visible technical leadership in a busy national team. You’ll enjoy balancing delivery, quality, relationships, mentoring and market growth, while helping Aurecon strengthen its Buildings presence across Aotearoa. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline Extensive experience in electrical engineering within Buildings, ideally with 10+ years’ post-graduation experience Chartered status strongly preferred, with the ability to support verification, technical leadership and producer statement requirements Deep technical design capability across building services electrical systems, with the confidence to set direction and review complex design outcomes Proven success building trusted client relationships and leading or materially influencing work winning and market-facing activity Confidence mentoring engineers, lifting team capability and providing technical guidance across multiple projects The ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, regions and project teams A practical, quality-focused mindset with the credibility to challenge, guide and improve design outcomes at a project, client and team level Why Aurecon We believe your career should be a rewarding adventure.
