The Lead, Executive Communications and Speechwriting is responsible for shaping and advancing Toronto Hydro's executive narrative through strategic communications, speechwriting and thought leadership initiatives. Working closely with the CEO, senior executives and key internal stakeholders, you will craft compelling speeches, presentations, board and stakeholder communications, social media content and external messaging that align with organizational priorities, strengthen leadership visibility and support corporate strategy. As a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will anticipate communication needs, provide strategic communications advice and develop high-impact messaging that enhances executive engagement, strengthens corporate positioning, and elevates organizational reputation. You will keep a pulse on industry trends, emerging issues, and external developments, helping the organization identify and assess risks, inform executive decision-making, and capitalize on opportunities by providing timely insights and practical recommendations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads the strategic development of executive and leadership communications, providing expert advice and messaging guidance to senior leaders on high-profile initiatives, stakeholder engagements, and emerging issues Elevates Toronto Hydro’s visibility and reputation through compelling storytelling, executive narratives, thought leadership platforms, speeches, and key messages that strengthen leadership presence and organizational credibility Conducts ongoing monitoring of industry trends, emerging issues and external developments to identify risks and opportunities and provide proactive insights and recommendations that support executive decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and corporate positioning Applies strong editorial judgment to ensure clarity, consistency, and effectiveness across executive, corporate, and stakeholder communications Ensures all communications are consistent with Toronto Hydro’s brand voice and style guidelines, while identifying opportunities to strengthen reputation, build trust, and enhance engagement through proactive and audience-centered communications Contributes to issues management, crisis communications planning and response strategies, providing communications expertise and support as required REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field Ten (10) or more years of experience in corporate communications, including at least five (5) years working directly with senior leaders providing strategic communications advice on complex initiatives and stakeholder engagements Proven experience developing and creating dynamic presentations, speeches, briefing materials, thought leadership content and strategic communications content Deep understanding of current events, industry trends and emerging issues with the ability to assess business impacts and translate insights into actionable communications strategies Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft authentic, persuasive, and impactful narratives aligned with organizational priorities Demonstrated political acumen and sound judgment in navigating sensitive, complex, and high-profile issues Strong research skills with the ability to uncover insights and develop meaningful stories Experience or familiarity with the utilities, energy, or other regulated sectors is considered an asset Strong familiarity with traditional and digital storytelling channels, speechwriting, social media, executive communications, podcasts, and internal communications platforms Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility and build partnerships across all levels of the organization Proven ability to manage competing priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment Portfolio Preferred: Candidates are encouraged to include a link to their portfolio in their resume or cover letter to showcase their writing samples.
