We are seeking an experienced Lead Full Stack Java Developer to lead the technical delivery of client-facing solutions supporting the implementation and ongoing evolution of the International Processing Engine (IPE) application.
In this role, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across the design, development, integration, testing, and production support of new features, enhancements, and fixes. You will set technical direction, ensure delivery quality, manage technical risks and dependencies, and work closely with delivery, product, architecture, and client stakeholders to meet critical programme deadlines.
You will be expected to establish and uphold high engineering standards, guide and mentor developers, drive sound architectural decisions, and promote the appropriate use of AI-assisted development tools to improve quality, productivity, and delivery outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design, development, and maintenance of scalable back-end services, front-end components, and RESTful APIs for the International Processing Engine (IPE) application.
- Provide technical leadership across the full delivery lifecycle, translating business requirements into robust, secure, maintainable, and scalable technical solutions.
- Own the delivery of complex development work, strategic enhancements, high-priority production fixes, and technical remediation activities in line with client and programme deadlines.
- Define and champion engineering standards, including coding practices, code reviews, automated testing, documentation, security controls, and release readiness.
- Lead technical design discussions and make informed architectural decisions covering scalability, resilience, performance, integration, security, and operational supportability.
- Mentor, coach, and provide day-to-day technical guidance to developers, supporting capability growth and consistent engineering practices across the team.
- Review solution designs, code, and test approaches to ensure quality, maintainability, and alignment with agreed technical standards.
- Drive the investigation and resolution of complex production issues, including root-cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
- Create and maintain automated tests to support quality, regression coverage, and reliable releases.
- Apply and oversee secure coding practices, including validation, authentication, authorization, and secure handling of application data.
- Work closely with product, delivery, quality assurance, architecture, and client stakeholders to manage technical dependencies, resolve delivery risks, and support effective sprint execution.
- Support settlement-related workflows including trade confirmations, reporting, books and records, and collateral management.
- Lead the technical delivery of solutions across the securities trade lifecycle, including Debt, Equity, and Financing Transactions.
- Drive continuous improvement across development practices, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, operational support, and the use of AI-assisted engineering tools.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, including substantial hands-on experience in Core Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Strong Java and Spring expertise is essential, including the design and delivery of service-oriented or microservices-based back-end systems.
- Strong SQL skills are essential, with extensive experience working with large relational databases, including MS SQL Server and Sybase
- JavaScript experience is desirable, with the ability to contribute to and lead the delivery of front-end components
- Python experience is good to have.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes is good to have.
- Proven experience operating as a Technical Lead, Lead Developer, or Senior Engineer with responsibility for technical direction, solution design, delivery quality, and developer mentoring.
- Strong full-stack development capability, with experience leading the design and delivery of both front-end components and back-end services.
- Extensive experience designing, building, governing, and integrating RESTful APIs and enterprise application integrations.
- Experience designing and supporting systems that process high data volumes and support real-time or time-sensitive workflows.
- Demonstrable experience making technical design and architectural decisions, with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Proven ability to lead code reviews, establish engineering standards, improve development practices, and resolve complex technical and production issues.
- Strong experience with automated testing, quality engineering, and embedding testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Experience working with source control, development, and delivery tools including Git, Eclipse, IntelliJ, Visual Studio, JIRA, and Confluence.
- Strong communication, stakeholder-management, and leadership skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical matters to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
Preferred
- Strong understanding of the securities trade lifecycle, including Middle Office and Back Office processes.
- Knowledge of settlements processing, trade confirmations, reporting, books and records, collateral management, and clearance/settlement workflows.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, from requirements and technical design through testing, user acceptance, release, and production support.
