Your Impact:
  • To lead the development and execution of integrated open-pit long-term mine plans that support five-year and Life of Mine business objectives, reserves and resources deliverables, and informed enterprise, exploration and capital investment decisions.
As Part of Our Team, You Will:

Long-Term Mine Planning and Optimisation

  • Formulate optimised open-pit mine designs and detailed phase designs that define the sequence of mining activities over the Life of Mine.
  • Develop and maintain integrated long-term mine plans, detailed five-year production plans, development milestones and closure activities.
  • Lead the site-specific open-pit planning team to deliver accurate and achievable budgets.
  • Conduct options and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making and improve value.
  • Formulate and execute cut-off grade strategies that optimise economic returns from mining operations.
  • Update mine extension plans in response to exploration results and changing market conditions.

Reserves, Resources and Project Integration

  • Lead mineral reserves and resources estimation in accordance with applicable international reporting standards.
  • Coordinate conceptual mine-project design, focusing on innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • Integrate environmental, social and governance considerations into long-term planning.
  • Present mine and phase designs, options, trade-offs and Life of Mine schedules for stakeholder review, approval and feedback, and facilitate regular plan reviews to incorporate new data and strategic changes.

People Leadership and Collaboration

  • Explain the purpose of the team’s work and how it adds value to the business.
  • Allocate work, identify critical issues, review delivery and provide feedback and coaching to support team performance.
  • Build and develop the team in partnership with the Director Long Term Planning.
  • Create an inclusive environment where team members feel safe to contribute, collaborate and receive feedback.
  • Build stakeholder commitment and lead through influence across multidisciplinary site and leadership teams.
Your Training, Skills and Experience Checklist:

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or other related fields.
  • Recognised Competent/Qualified Person for Mineral Reserves and Mineral Resources reporting.

Additional Knowledge:

  • Practical open-pit mining experience at site.
  • Working knowledge of open-pit mine planning, including design, scheduling, business planning, resource-to-reserve conversion and business improvement.
  • Knowledge of operational value drivers, open-pit design and scheduling optimisation, mine automation and technologies, functional cost modelling, mine-plan compliance monitoring and safety-in-design concepts.
  • Knowledge of mine engineering design and scheduling software, including MineSight, Vulcan or Deswik.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to leadership and supervise and develop Long Term Planning Engineers.
  • Technical report writing
  • Knowledge of integrated masterplans.

Experience:

  • 5-8 minimum years of hands on mine planning experience in open-pit short/medium term and or long-term mine planning.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in open-pit mine planning concepts, procedures and software applications.
  • Advanced capability to design and implement solutions that optimise value and reduce variability in mine planning.
  • Competence in functional cost modelling and related tools.
  • People-management capability, including generating stakeholder buy-in and influencing at Site Leadership level to deliver integrated plans.
  • Ability to manage time constraints, competing priorities and work prioritisation in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in relevant mining software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Problem Solving Ability:

  • Works effectively within established systems and processes and compares data against known models or systems.
  • Processes information of varying complexity and uses data and patterns to make predictions and improve work methods.
  • Solves problems where trial and error may not be sufficient and tests alternative approaches before recommending a solution.
