This role leads the technical design and validation of secure, vendor-agnostic architectures; oversees multi-protocol integration; supports Break/Fix/Repair (BFR) engineering decisions; and ensures the prototype meets mission, cybersecurity, Zero Trust, and interoperability requirements across diverse legacy and modern control system environments.
Essential Functions:
- Lead development of the Target Modernization Reference Architecture covering OT/ICS/FRCS supervisory, network, and field device layers.
- Define interoperability strategies across Modbus, BACnet, LonWorks, serial protocols, and proprietary vendor systems.
- Ensure designs maintain operational performance, latency, and control-loop integrity across installation enclaves.
- Provide technical leadership in generating Technical Courses of Action (COAs) for discrepancies, including preserve/secure, interface/convert, or targeted replacement strategies.
- Serve as lead technical presenter for SRR, IDR, FDR, IRR, TRR, and other Government reviews.
- Support Agile sprint planning, technical reviews, and variance management under the project’s governance framework.
- Provide escalated technical guidance for field teams performing BFR remediation and verifying operational utility under live mission conditions.
- Ensure all implemented architectures reflect approved COAs and comply with Government constraints (e.g., no modification of core Army networks).
Competencies:
- Deep understanding of OT/ICS control system architectures
- Ability to design zero-trust aligned OT/ICS system architectures
- Experience integrating legacy OT devices into modern secure infrastructures
- Strong communication skills for Government reviews and technical documentation
- Strong ability to evaluate operational constraints, mission impacts, and engineering risks
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Systems), Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum 8 years engineering OT/SCADA systems (explicitly required)
- Experience across multiple ICS vendors (e.g., Rockwell, Honeywell, Siemens, JCI, ALC) based on SOW references
