Why Statkraft?
Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. That's what we offer. 125 years of unrivalled expertise in supplying the world with what it needs most. Because in the fight against climate change, we don't see renewable energy as part of the solution – we believe it must be the solution. With us, you'll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match.
But there's more work to be done – that's why we need you to join us!
Working in Continental Power Trading
Within our Continental Power Trading hub, we have a small team of professionals responding to complexities of multiple energy markets. Located in Germany, the group navigates diverse and interconnected markets.
This is a high-impact role focused on shaping and enhancing the analytical framework that supports trading decisions across European power markets. The successful candidate will combine deep analytical expertise with a strong understanding of commercial trading environments. This is a key role in identifying market opportunities, developing analytical tools and frameworks, and ensuring that insights can be translated into actionable trading strategies and P&L generation.
This position requires an individual who can work closely with traders, understand their requirements, independently develop solutions, and continuously challenge and improve the desk's analytical capabilities.
This will be a full time position based in Dusseldorf, reporting into the Head of Continental Power Trading.
The responsibilities will include as follows:
- Develop, enhance, and maintain analytical models, tools, and frameworks supporting European power trading activities.
- Translate complex market fundamentals, exposures, and trading opportunities into clear and actionable insights.
- Analyse market trends, supply-demand dynamics, generation, weather, transmission constraints, interconnectors, and other key drivers of power prices.
- Maintain and develop internal and external relationships to strengthen market intelligence.
- Evaluate existing analytical capabilities and define a roadmap for future development.
- Identify gaps in current tools, datasets, and market intelligence capabilities.
- Recommend and implement improvements to strengthen the desk's analytical edge.
- Work directly alongside traders to understand trading requirements and convert them into practical analytical solutions.
- Contribute ideas that enhance the desk's ability to generate P&L across European power markets.
- Communicate progress, priorities, requirements, and obstacles clearly and proactively.
- University degree in Mathematics, Economics, Science or similar.
- Substantial experience and proven track record in fundamental analysis and modelling of the European Power markets, ideally across more than one trading house.
- Extensive hands-on experience building and running fundamental models, with a track record of using them to form a clear, independent view on the market.
- In-depth knowledge of the German, French and UK power markets and the drivers that link them
- Knowledge of cross-border power flows, interconnectors, transmission constraints, and capacity markets.
- Strong understanding of how weather affects power demand, renewable output and prices
- A minimum of 5 years of experience operating in a commercial trading environment where analytics directly supported trading and revenue generation.
- Strong understanding of how traders identify opportunities, construct positions, and generate profit.
- Ability to take the models, data and tools we already have, build on them and improve them, rather than recreate what you have done elsewhere.
- A creative and curious approach, open to new methods and not tied to one way of doing things.
- Confidence to advise the Head of the Continental Power Trading desk on strategy, turning analysis into clear recommendations rather than just producing data.
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver analytical projects from concept through implementation.
- A clear preference for analytics over trading, and motivation to build long-term analytical capability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage in effective and direct communication at all levels.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Python.
