Senior Full-Stack Developer (MERN) - AnyShift
AnyShift is a European staffing platform headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium. We connect students and flexi-workers with small and medium-sized businesses, and we run the entire process digitally - from matching the right person to the right job, to digital contracts, scheduling, payroll, and compliance - all in one platform.
As a recognised Belgian staffing agency, we operate fully within EU employment law and GDPR, with worker fairness and data protection built in from the start. What sets us apart is that we've taken a traditionally paperwork-heavy, fragmented industry and turned it into a fast, transparent, mobile-first experience for both businesses and workers.
Today we have 25,000 active users in Belgium, and our goal is to grow that 10x within the next year. AnyShift is also the flagship of a broader ecosystem of workplace and business tools we're building - so you'll be joining at a stage where your work has direct impact and there's real room to grow with us.

Role Summary
We're looking for a senior Full-Stack Developer with deep MERN expertise and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience building production-grade applications. You'll own features end to end — backend APIs, integrations, architecture, and performance — and work closely with our front-end designer to turn designs into clean, reliable product. As we scale toward 10x growth this year, you'll play a central role in keeping the platform fast, stable, and ready for that load.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain full-stack applications using MongoDB, Express.js, React/Next.js, and Node.js (TypeScript).
- Architect, build, and maintain secure and scalable REST APIs.
- Implement authentication, authorisation, and data-security best practices (JWT, OAuth, RBAC).
- Work together with our front-end designer to build clean, reusable React/Next.js UI components and efficient front-end logic.
- Integrate third-party services and APIs — payments, notifications, payroll, and identity verification / digital signing.
- Optimise application performance, database queries, and cloud deployments.
- Collaborate with product managers and other engineers to deliver high-quality features.
- Participate in code reviews, write clear documentation, and maintain coding standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, production issues, and system performance bottlenecks.
Required Skills & Experience
- A minimum of 5–6 years of professional full-stack development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js).
- Proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+), async programming, the API lifecycle, and system design.
- Experience with Next.js (or strong React with the willingness to work in a Next.js codebase).
- Experience deploying applications on DigitalOcean, AWS, or similar cloud platforms.
- Solid command of Git, branching strategies, version control, and clean-code principles.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, database optimisation, and server-side logic.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of features from concept to deployment.
- Good communication skills and comfort working with an international, English-speaking team.
Nice to Have
- Experience with microservices, WebSockets, queues, and schedulers.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows (DigitalOcean Kubernetes / DOKS a plus).
- Experience in startups or building scalable SaaS platforms.
- Familiarity with GDPR and EU data-protection practices.
What We Offer
- Work with an international, fast-growing European startup at a pivotal growth stage - we're aiming to scale 10x within the year.
- Build meaningful features used every day by businesses and workers.
- Growth opportunities toward Tech Lead / Engineering Manager roles.
- A flexible remote/hybrid working environment.
