Lead Software Engineer

Job Description A Zurich-based startup is building the digital infrastructure for navigating end-of-life and loss, bringing together funeral services, administrative and financial tasks, legal processes, and family communication in one place. Their v0.5 is live with early users, and they're now looking for a senior engineer to lead the development of the next version as their first senior engineering hire and technical owner of the platform. Lead the design and development of the next platform version, from architecture to shipped features Own the RAG and AI agent layer end to end, including retrieval quality and evaluation Set up workflows for effective use of AI coding agents across the team Build a security- and privacy-first foundation for handling highly sensitive personal data Act as technical authority in customer and partner conversations Help hire and onboard future engineers Requirements Software engineering experience, including owning production systems end to end Experience with web stacks (React/TypeScript, Node) and cloud infrastructure Experience building AI agents and retrieval-augmented systems Strong product sense and experience shaping what gets built Fluent English Advantage: German and familiarity with swiss legal & financial ecosystem Benefits Start: As soon as possible Workload: 80–100% Duration: Permanent Location: Hybrid, Zurich Salary: negotiable (participation possible)
