Position Summary:
Trulioo is seeking a business-minded Legal Counsel who thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment to join our team. You will own commercial matters from day one and see the full range of commercial work – customer, partner and inbound supplier agreements – rather than a narrow slice of sales paper. The agreements you negotiate shape how our products reach customers globally.
You will work across the business as the team scales, negotiating commercial agreements and partnering with internal stakeholders to progress key deals and enable innovation. You will also use AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to increase the speed and consistency of legal work, while exercising judgment over confidentiality, accuracy and risk. The role suits a lawyer building an in-house career who brings a low-ego, team-first mindset and wants to grow alongside a high-performing team.
This will be a full-time, permanent position based in the Vancouver office on a hybrid model (3 days per week in the office).
What You’ll Be Doing:
Draft, review, negotiate and manage technology and commercial agreements, including master services agreements, inbound data supplier and licensing agreements, data processing terms, partner and reseller agreements and vendor contracts, across a global customer and supplier base.
Provide clear, timely, commercially grounded legal advice to internal stakeholders, balancing deal objectives, contractual risk and practical execution.
Build deep knowledge of Trulioo’s products and business models, and support the legal workstreams behind new offerings and market launches.
Collaborate with teams across Sales, Customer Success, Revenue Operations, Product and Finance to structure and negotiate new business deals.
Make decisions independently within agreed risk thresholds and escalate matters that fall outside them.
Improve contract templates, playbooks and workflows; use approved AI tools for drafting, review, research and contract analysis, with appropriate human validation and confidentiality safeguards.
Stay current on technology, SaaS, privacy and commercial contracting developments and translate legal requirements into practical guidance.
Partner with Privacy, Information Security and Compliance on data processing terms, cross-border transfer mechanisms and customer due diligence requests.
What You’ll Bring:
LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
Good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia, or with another Canadian law society.
3-5 years of post-qualification legal experience in private practice and/or in-house, with flexibility for candidates whose experience is otherwise a strong match.
Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts for technology or SaaS businesses, including customer-facing agreements.
Strong working knowledge of technology contracting issues, including software licensing, service levels, intellectual property, data protection and allocation of commercial risk.
Practical fluency with AI-powered legal and productivity tools, including the ability to apply them responsibly to contract drafting, review, research and workflow improvement while verifying outputs.
Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills, with strong business acumen and sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize and run multiple matters independently.
Collaborative, accountable and solutions-oriented approach, with confidence to challenge constructively and drive matters to completion.
Nice to Have:
Experience supporting commercial transactions in a high-growth environment, or in identity verification, KYC/KYB, AML, financial services or another regulated industry.
Knowledge and experience with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), PIPEDA and comparable privacy regimes, and legal concerns related to the protection of personal data.
