Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct and analyze experiments . The Child Wellness Lab, Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine, is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to perform basic laboratory functions and activities. The duties specific to this job involve ongoing lab research across multiple projects. The LSRP I in this position is expected to independently conduct and analyze biomarkers of health using molecular biology techniques related to the discovery, validation, and measurement of novel biomarkers of risk and resilience. The LSRP I must be capable of performing basic statistical analyses and the interpretation of the findings. This team member will assist with publications, presentations, grant proposals, and NIH project reports. Candidates should have a basic understanding of age-related child development, pain and stress physiology, brain development, and social drivers of health. Mastery of molecular biology and neuroscience techniques associated with these research areas is necessary. Skills for critical appraisals of emerging literature on the indicators of emotional, cognitive and behavioral outcomes in preverbal children are necessary. Some experience in human subjects’ research or handling human biospecimens is preferred. Candidates are expected to maintain a positive “can do” attitude and be a role model for trainees and other co-workers within and outside the laboratory. Candidates must demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to ensure task completion; accept, incorporate, and suggest change; have the ability to interact and communicate with research agencies, laboratory co-workers, and regulatory agencies within and outside the university. Duties include: Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory. Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher. Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research. Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals. Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed. Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work. Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
