About WhyGolf

WhyGolf helps golfers play better through innovative training aids and a golf app built to help players make smarter decisions on the course.

Our training aids help golfers improve their swing, putting, and practice. The WhyGolf App brings together GPS, shot tracking, strokes gained analytics, and course management tools.

We’re looking for someone who can help customers get more value from both—and build lasting relationships with WhyGolf.

The Role

We’re hiring a contract Retention & Lifecycle Strategist to own lifecycle marketing across our training aids business and mobile app.

For training aids, you’ll turn subscribers into first-time buyers, help customers use their products successfully, and drive repeat purchases. For the app, you’ll help new users activate, return for more rounds, and become long-term subscribers.

This is a hands-on role with responsibility for strategy, copywriting, campaign implementation, testing, and analysis. You’ll work closely with marketing, creative, and product to build relevant customer journeys across both sides of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Own lifecycle strategy and execution across email, SMS, push notifications, and in-app messaging.

  • Build and optimize ecommerce flows, including welcome, browse and cart abandonment, post-purchase education, cross-sell, and win-back.

  • Develop app journeys for onboarding, first-round activation, repeat usage, free-to-paid conversion, and subscription retention.

  • Own the email and SMS campaign calendar for training aids, including product education, launches, promotions, and customer stories.

  • Create thoughtful connections between the businesses, introducing training aid customers to the app and app users to relevant training aids.

  • Segment audiences based on purchase history, product ownership, app behavior, engagement, and subscription status.

  • Write clear, compelling copy and develop briefs for the creative assets needed to support campaigns.

  • Run structured experiments across messaging, timing, frequency, offers, and audience segments.

  • Measure performance against purchases, repeat purchase rate, app activation, retention, and subscription revenue—not just opens and clicks.

  • Partner with product and engineering on event tracking, integrations, deep links, and the data needed to power relevant messaging.

  • Own campaign QA, deliverability, list health, consent, and communication preferences.

  • Maintain a prioritized testing roadmap and share actionable findings with the team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in lifecycle marketing, CRM, retention, or a closely related role.

  • Hands-on experience managing ecommerce lifecycle programs, including automated flows and promotional campaigns.

  • Experience with Klaviyo or a comparable ecommerce marketing platform.

  • Familiarity with behavior-triggered messaging and lifecycle strategies for consumer apps or subscription products.

  • Ability to own campaigns from strategy and copywriting through implementation, QA, and analysis.

  • Strong understanding of repeat purchase rate, customer lifetime value, activation, retention, churn, and subscription conversion.

  • Ability to turn customer and product data into practical segmentation and testing opportunities.

  • Strong copywriting skills and an instinct for making product benefits relevant to customers.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and reliably deliver as a contractor.

  • Clear communication skills and comfort collaborating with marketing, creative, product, and engineering.

You’ll Stand Out If You…

  • Have worked across both ecommerce and a freemium or subscription-based app.

  • Have experience with Shopify, mobile lifecycle platforms such as Braze or Customer.io, and analytics tools such as Mixpanel or Amplitude.

  • Have built post-purchase education that improved product usage, customer satisfaction, or repeat purchases.

  • Have hands-on experience with push notifications, in-app messaging, and deep links.

  • Have used holdout tests to distinguish incremental revenue from purchases that would have happened anyway.

  • Have an interest in golf, sports, or products that help people improve their performance.

What Success Looks Like

  • More subscribers become first-time training aid customers.

  • Customers understand how to use their training aids and return for relevant additional products.

  • More app users complete their first round, return for subsequent rounds, and become paying subscribers.

  • Customers discover relevant value across the training aids business and app.

  • Lifecycle campaigns drive measurable, profitable growth through a consistent process of testing and improvement.

Contract & Location

  • Remote, contract engagement.

  • Compensation based on experience and agreed scope.

  • Hours, deliverables, and working arrangements to be agreed before the engagement begins.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • Your resume or relevant portfolio.

  • A short note explaining why you’re a strong fit for WhyGolf.

  • One or two examples of lifecycle programs you personally owned, including the problem, what you built, and the results. Examples spanning ecommerce and app retention are especially relevant.

  • Your availability and preferred contract rate or monthly retainer.

  • An example of a paid growth or app acquisition initiative you personally owned end to end (optional)
