Role Title: Mainframe Datacom Engineer

Location: Remote

Duration: 30-Nov-26 (will be extended)

Rate: £603 per day (PAYE through Umbrella)

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Broadcom Datacom DBA / System Programmer to provide hands-on BAU support and technical ownership of an existing CA Datacom environment on IBM z/OS.

The candidate must have strong hands-on Datacom expertise and be capable of independently diagnosing and resolving database and platform issues, performing fixes and maintenance, and supporting patching activities with minimal training.

This is not a production monitoring role or a Datacom-to-DB2 migration role. The requirement is to provide specialist DBA support for the existing Datacom environment while the wider modernisation programme progresses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and maintain Broadcom Datacom databases on z/OS.

• Independently diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve Datacom database issues.

• Perform database backup, restore/recovery and database administration/structuring.

• Diagnose and resolve database and query performance issues.

• Perform/support Datacom fixes, patching, patch validation and maintenance.

• Provide Datacom technical consultancy and support to applications and users.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.

• Take ownership of BAU Datacom activities transferred from the existing team.

• Work closely with application, operations and infrastructure teams to maintain service stability.

• Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.

Essential Skills:

• Strong hands-on Broadcom Datacom / CA Datacom DBA experience.

• Proven ability to independently diagnose and fix Datacom issues, not simply monitor and escalate production incidents.

• Strong experience in backup/recovery, database administration, restoration and performance/query tuning.

• Hands-on Datacom patching, maintenance and System Programming experience.

• Strong IBM z/OS and JCL knowledge.

• Ability to operate independently with minimal training or supervision.

• Strong troubleshooting, analysis and problem-solving skills.

• Experience supporting enterprise-scale production Datacom environments.

• Ability to work Mexico-aligned hours.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Spanish language capability strongly preferred, particularly for interaction with Spanish-speaking users and team members.

• CICS, COBOL and wider mainframe application knowledge.

• Banking or financial services experience.

• Db2 knowledge is advantageous but not a requirement for the role.

• Experience working within regulated enterprise environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

We are looking for a self-sufficient Datacom specialist who has extensive experience supporting and maintaining Broadcom Datacom environments in production. The successful candidate will be able to quickly assume ownership of BAU Datacom activities, independently diagnose and resolve issues, perform patching and maintenance activities, and provide expert DBA support with minimal onboarding or supervision.

This role is focused on maintaining and supporting an existing Datacom estate and requires practical, hands-on expertise rather than oversight, monitoring or migration-only experience.
