Description

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Systems Analyst / Interface & Documentation Specialist position for our client.

Location: Remote
Duration: 12 months

Duties:

  • Analyze complex mainframe interfaces, data flows, batch processes, and system dependencies across multiple applications.

  • Develop and independently validate source-to-target data mappings, including file layouts, element IDs, offsets, lengths, and data transformations.

  • Create and maintain interface inventories documenting file and record layouts, processing schedules, application dependencies, system owners, and subject matter experts (SMEs).

  • Trace files, batch jobs, reports, and processing flows across systems to validate data movement and investigate discrepancies.

  • Develop data-flow diagrams, process diagrams, batch/job/file traceability documentation, interface specifications, and technical process summaries.

  • Review existing documentation, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and validate findings with business owners, SMEs, and technical teams.

  • Document unresolved questions, assumptions, and dependencies while working with stakeholders to clarify incomplete or outdated information.

  • Create and maintain reusable technical documentation, including source-to-target mappings, process documentation, PBIs, and supporting artifacts.

  • Incorporate review feedback, maintain version-controlled deliverables, and conduct documentation walkthroughs to ensure established acceptance criteria are met.

Skills:

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM, copybooks, and mainframe file layouts.

  • Experience with Systematics RM, Systematics IM, Systematics IT, Systematics GN, and Systematics AIS.

  • Strong understanding of mainframe interfaces, data integration, batch processing, and application dependencies.

  • Proficiency in source-to-target data mapping, data-flow analysis, and technical documentation.

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to independently trace and validate technical information rather than relying solely on existing documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for technical and business audiences.

  • Ability to collaborate with system owners and SMEs to resolve questions and address documentation gaps.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex mainframe applications, interfaces, and end-to-end data flows.

  • Hands-on experience tracing batch jobs, files, reports, and dependencies across multiple systems.

  • Experience validating file-level source-to-target mappings, including data elements, offsets, lengths, and transformations.

  • Proven ability to create accurate technical diagrams, interface inventories, process documentation, and reusable technical artifacts.

  • Experience investigating legacy systems, identifying inconsistencies, and validating undocumented or outdated processes.

  • Ability to work independently, manage detailed documentation deliverables, incorporate review feedback, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant technical experience.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
