The Major Gifts Specialist is responsible for managing a portfolio of 75–125 major gift prospects and donors while systematically advancing individuals through the donor cultivation cycle to secure philanthropic investments of $10,000 and above in support of Mosaic Life Care. The Major Gifts Specialist is accountable for achieving established activity, solicitation and revenue goals through strategic relationship-building, personalized donor engagement and effective portfolio management. This position develops strong, collaborative relationships with organizational leadership, department directors, managers, clinicians and affiliated physicians to identify philanthropic opportunities, engage donors and align fundraising efforts with institutional priorities.

  • Manage a portfolio of 75–125 major gift prospects and donors, developing and executing individualized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies designed to secure philanthropic investments of $10,000 and above
  • Achieve established annual goals for donor visits, solicitations, proposals submitted, gifts closed and revenue generated through disciplined portfolio moves management and relationship-based fundraising
  • Develop and implement an annual action plan and multi-year fundraising strategy that includes prospect identification, qualification, research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and donor recognition activities
  • Participate in a rigorous moves management process, maintaining accurate and timely documentation of all donor interactions, next steps and outcomes within the donor database while adhering to prospect management and clearance policies
  • Identify, qualify and strategically advance new major gift prospects to build and sustain a robust pipeline of future donors
  • Generate and execute comprehensive stewardship plans for major donors to strengthen relationships, demonstrate impact and encourage ongoing philanthropic investment
  • Partner with the President of Philanthropy, physician and operational leaders to engage grateful patients and families, facilitating meaningful opportunities for philanthropy that support organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with the President of Philanthropy to identify and implement blended and complex giving opportunities, including planned gifts, current gifts and other tax-advantaged charitable vehicles
  • Engage health system executives, clinical leaders, board members and volunteers, as appropriate, in donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities to maximize philanthropic outcomes
  • Develop compelling gift proposals, cases for support and donor presentations that align donor interests with organizational priorities and funding opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with clinical, operational and executive leaders to identify philanthropic funding opportunities that advance strategic organizational priorities and improve patient care, education, research and community health

    • Education

    • Bachelor's Degree - business finance, healthcare administration, or related field - Required


    Work Experience

    • 5-7+ Years - in fund development, at least 3 years' experience of proven major gifts experience, in a healthcare organization - Preferred
    • Direct experience with a constituent relationship management (CRM) donor database system required (e.g., Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, Salesforce); healthcare foundation experience - Preferred
    • Ability and proven track record in soliciting, cultivating and closing major gifts ranging from $10,000 to $1,000,000 - Required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) - Preferred

    Travel Requirements

    • Regular travel outside of the office - Required
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects and donors through all stages of the donor lifecycle
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish credibility and trust with donors, physicians, executives, board members, volunteers and colleagues
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling cases for support, proposals and donor correspondence
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, establish goals and execute long-term cultivation and solicitation plans
  • Ability to assess donor interests, motivations and philanthropic capacity and align giving opportunities with organizational priorities
  • Knowledge of major gift fundraising principles, moves management, donor stewardship, prospect research and portfolio management best practices
  • Familiarity with planned giving concepts and the ability to recognize and refer complex gift opportunities
  • Ability to analyze fundraising data, interpret donor information and use metrics to guide decision-making and measure performance
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate donor records and manage confidential information
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment and discretion when working with sensitive donor, patient and organizational information
