Category & Shopper Insights Manager
Position Overview
The Category & Shopper Insights Manager is the subject matter expert on category performance, shopper behavior, consumer trends, competitive dynamics, and the retail landscape across key brands within our portfolio. This role transforms data into actionable business insights that drive strategic decision-making, customer growth, and sales performance.
Leveraging advanced analytics, market research, syndicated data, and retailer-specific insights, the Category & Shopper Insights Manager partners closely with Brand Marketing, Customer Strategic Planning, Sales Teams, and Retail Customers to develop fact-based recommendations that support both category leadership and Church & Dwight's growth objectives.
This role balances long-term strategic planning with day-to-day business needs, using insights to influence internal decision-making and strengthen customer partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
Leverage shopper, consumer, and customer insights to proactively shape business strategies and growth opportunities.
- Develop a deep understanding of category, shopper, competitive, and retailer dynamics to inform strategic planning.
- Identify emerging trends and future opportunities that support marketing initiatives and customer business plans.
- Lead assortment, shelving, and planogram recommendations to drive category growth and sales performance.
- Uncover business insights that accelerate retail growth and strengthen category leadership.
- Identify priority customers, brands, and growth opportunities over the next 24 months.
Insights & Analytics
Transform data into meaningful insights that drive business action.
- Utilize syndicated and retailer data sources, including NielsenIQ, Numerator, Promo Intel, Scintilla, LDIA, IRI, and other customer POS systems.
- Analyze consumer, category, retailer, and competitive trends to identify opportunities and risks.
- Monitor competitive activity and recommend actions to address market threats and capitalize on growth opportunities.
- Deliver actionable insights and strategic recommendations to internal cross-functional teams.
- Serve as a trusted expert on category performance, shopper behavior, and customer trends.
Customer Engagement & Execution
Leverage insights to influence retailer decisions and support execution excellence.
- Partner with key retailers to provide category expertise and strategic recommendations regarding assortment, placement, and merchandising opportunities.
- Influence customer decision-making through compelling, data-driven selling stories.
- Support the development and delivery of Joint Business Plans (JBPs), line reviews, category reviews, monthly business updates, and Top-to-Top meetings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure insights are translated into actionable business plans and successful execution.
Success Measures
Success in this role will be measured through:
- Execution and adoption of assortment, shelving, and category recommendations.
- Growth in distribution, market share, and share of shelf.
- Influence on internal strategic planning through data-driven insights.
- Demonstrated expertise in syndicated data, customer analytics, and category management tools.
- Strong retailer partnerships and successful identification of growth opportunities.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience within the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
- 2+ years of Category Management experience.
- Advanced analytical and data interpretation capabilities.
- Experience with NielsenIQ data and category management principles.
- Strong understanding of shopper insights and consumer behavior.
- Experience utilizing retailer data platforms such as Scintilla, LDIA, IRI, or similar tools.
Preferred
- Experience working with planogram and space management software such as JDA or equivalent.
- Experience presenting category and business recommendations to major retail customers.

Compensation
The Ontario compensation range for this position is $102,000 - $140,000.
Actual starting salary will be determined based on internal equity, relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market competitiveness, and geographic location.
