For more information, visit www.synchrony.com . Organizational Overview The Controllership organization oversees Synchrony’s day-to-day accounting operations and related governance activities. Core responsibilities include cash accounting, general ledger accounting, client accounting, account reconciliations, period-end close and financial reporting, accounting system maintenance, and control/governance sub-processes. These activities collectively support quarterly and annual close execution and help ensure accurate, timely, and compliant external financial reporting. Role Summary/Purpose: This role is a key contributor to the controllership team, supporting core accounting operations that ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records. The position requires a strong foundation in general accounting principles, along with the ability to apply analytical thinking to a variety of daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly activities. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accounting processes, supporting month-end close, and helping deliver reliable financial information for internal stakeholders and business decision-making. The role involves a broad range of accounting responsibilities focused on reconciliation, journal entries, balancing activities, and financial reporting support. Key Responsibilities: Reconciliation Manager (Quality Assurance & Controls) Perform daily balancing activities to ensure completeness and accuracy of accounting data. Prepare, review, and post manual journal entries in accordance with accounting policies and internal controls. Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reconciliations across assigned accounts and processes. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, escalating issues when necessary. Support month-end and period-end reporting activities, including analysis of balances and variance review. Assist with accrual preparation and other general ledger activities to support accurate financial close. Partner with internal teams to gather information, validate transactions, and ensure accounting entries are properly supported. Ad Hoc Support and Business Partnership In addition to recurring accounting responsibilities, the role will support ad hoc projects and other business requirements as needed including: responding to changing priorities, assisting with ad hoc analysis, and contributing to process enhancements that strengthen controllership operations. Required Skills/Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance with 1+ yrs of work experience or lieu of degree 3+ years equivalent experience Strong attention to details and critical thinking Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Ability to manage multiple and varied priorities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Desired Skills/Knowledge: Experience in controllership, financial analysis, or financial services industry Reconciliation software experience (preferred: Blackline) Oracle GL experience Power BI, Power Automate, RPA, AI experience Experience with RPA/BOT process automation including documentation, governance, and controls Good project management skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills Eligibility Criteria: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance with 1+ yrs of work experience or lieu of degree 3+ years equivalent experience Work Timings: 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM IST This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose.
