Position Summary

The Manager of Electrical Engineering participates in the development of the strategic engineering initiatives and is then responsible for transforming the department initiatives into tactical plans to support corporate research and product development goals.

Measures of success:

• Improve the efficiency of electrical development, through successfully building, mentoring, and managing the electrical engineering team
• Accurately develop and manage annual department and new product development (NPD) budgets
• Accurately develop, maintain, and enforce department policies and procedures
• Accurately analyze upcoming technology to determine resource needs and development

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Manages and oversees the design and development of all electrical engineering projects (new and lifecycle).
• Manages the internal and external electrical development resources for product development.
• Analyzes technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
• Manages electrical development initiatives utilizing Agile principles.
• Ensures on-time and on-budget completion of projects.
• Develops and maintains approved annual budget.
• Develops and implements policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work in the department.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Customer Care, Technical Services, Manufacturing, Quality, Legal, Financial and Purchasing functions.
• Schedules and adheres with agency approvals and test standards required for products in identified target markets.
• Assists the Legal Department in the managing of intellectual property, including new patent filing and legacy patent administration.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

People Management

• Evaluates team members to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; collaborate on development actions and ensure resources necessary to complete actions.
• Cascades relevant and appropriate information about the company and department effectively and in a timely manner.
• Coaches and mentors for skill and knowledge development.
• Executes necessary responsibilities of team during absences or alternate engagement.
• Ensures team adheres to company policies, practices, and department standards.
• Assigns actions and ensure completion.
• Reviews work quality and provides feedback and guidance to team.

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Five (5) to Seven (7) years of experience in a research and development (R&D) engineering role, developing platform products
• One (1) to Three (3) years of experience in leading teams and managing projects
• Strong background using circuit layout and printed circuit board layout software
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams and Project)
• Strong background in circuit simulation
• Strong background in design for electromagnetic compatibility / electromagnetic interference (EMC/EMI)
• Strong ability to develop strategic engineering initiatives to support overall corporate objectives
• Strong project planning, organizational management, and technical leadership skills with a proven track record of successful execution
• Proven ability to develop and manage projects
• Demonstrated relationship management and decision-making skills
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and inspire cross-functional teams
• Occasional travel required to conferences, customer / rep sites, etc.

Preferred:

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience in a research and development engineering role, developing platform products
• Design for Six Sigma experience and Six Sigma Green Belt or higher

Work Environment:

This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology. Verbal and auditory capability are required. Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position may work from home up to 2 days/week if performance is in good standing.
