Manager, Fleet Maintenance (Transit Operations)

MTM Transit is proactively building a pipeline of experienced maintenance leaders for future business opportunities across our growing transit and paratransit operations. While contract awards have not yet been finalized, we are seeking qualified professionals interested in joining our talent community and being considered for upcoming opportunities nationwide.
This Evergreen Requisition is designed to identify and engage talented maintenance professionals for future Manager, Maintenance openings as new contracts are awarded and operations expand. Qualified candidates may be considered for opportunities supporting fleets of varying sizes and complexity.
Position Summary
The Manager, Fleet Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and maintaining an effective fleet maintenance program to ensure vehicles are operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements. This position provides leadership for maintenance operations, preventative maintenance programs, vendor management, regulatory compliance, vehicle performance, and fleet asset management while supporting operational excellence and service reliability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead daily fleet maintenance operations and provide guidance and support to maintenance personnel.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs that maximize vehicle reliability and longevity.
- Plan and schedule maintenance workloads while balancing operational demands, staffing resources, and budgets.
- Oversee vehicle inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and servicing activities.
- Develop and maintain vehicle tracking systems and fleet maintenance records.
- Ensure all vehicle documentation, including registrations, insurance, inspections, and maintenance files, are current and properly maintained.
- Track, analyze, and report maintenance trends, risks, costs, and vehicle performance metrics.
- Review driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) and ensure identified deficiencies are corrected.
- Train drivers and maintenance personnel on vehicle inspection procedures and fleet safety practices.
- Establish and maintain relationships with repair vendors, parts suppliers, and service providers to ensure cost-effective maintenance solutions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FTA, ADA, client, and company standards.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional maintenance facility environment.
- Identify operational risks and make recommendations to improve fleet performance and reduce maintenance costs.
- Support startup activities, vehicle deployment planning, and fleet expansion initiatives for new business opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of automotive, fleet, diesel, or transportation maintenance experience.
- Minimum one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs and vehicle maintenance schedules.
- Knowledge of vehicle inspection programs and maintenance reporting systems.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Previous management experience overseeing fleet maintenance operations.
- Transit or paratransit fleet maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of ADA, DOT, FTA, and OSHA regulations.
- Experience supervising technicians or hourly personnel.
- Experience with vendor management and repair network development.
- ASE Certification or other industry-recognized maintenance certifications.
- Experience supporting startup operations and fleet implementation projects.

- Knowledge of maintenance management systems, fleet reporting, and asset tracking.
- Ability to coach, train, and develop employees.
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Travel
- Local and overnight travel may be required.
- Candidates may be required to operate a company or rental vehicle in accordance with company policy and motor vehicle standards.

Small Division: $65,440 - $117,840
Medium Division: $76,960 - $133,480
Large Division: $90,720 - $163,320
