The Opportunity
Caraway Home is a direct-to-consumer cookware and home goods brand with a fast-growing retail and wholesale business. Our finance function is not a back-office group, it sets the demand plan that commits our inventory capital, owns pricing architecture, and partners directly with the Leadership Team on strategic financial decisions.
This role will report to and work alongside the Associate Director of FP&A across the full range of what the team owns: demand planning and inventory, pricing and unit economics, budgeting and reforecasting, and executive reporting. It's a hybrid role by design: you'll move constantly between units and dollars, between a SKU-level forecast and a channel P&L, because that movement is the core skill of the team.
Who You Are
You're very detail-oriented. This role is a quality check on data and numbers other teams rely on, and small errors compound quickly across reporting, pricing QA, and partner forecasts.
We are looking for candidates from experience with a merchandise, inventory, or category planning background with real financial modeling depth, or an FP&A background built in a consumer or inventory-heavy business.
This is not a reporting production role. We need someone who interprets what the numbers say, forms a view, and brings it forward. This role is scoped to grow into category ownership. At Caraway, that means holding the full picture for a category: how the assortment is built and where it has gaps or redundancy, what each SKU earns on a unit basis, what demand looks like and what inventory it requires, how pricing and promotion should be structured, and what the category needs to do for the business next year. Demand planning is the largest piece of that, but a forecast is only as good as the assortment and pricing decisions underneath it.
Responsibilities
Reporting & Budgeting
- Own monthly All Hands reporting and the underlying revenue/margin views by channel, product, and category — going beyond the standing package to flag what's moving, what isn't, and what leadership should be watching that they aren't today.
- Support quarterly board reporting and investor updates.
- Run the monthly department budget cycle (actuals, recodes, variance reporting), holding department leads to a quality bar on submitted forecasts, plus the annual budget and reforecasting in between.
Demand & Retail Forecasting
- Run monthly demand model actualization and build the variance commentary that explains the driver behind a miss, not just its size — this also feeds the broader demand planning process.
- Support partner-level retail and wholesale forecasting: real retail math, from inventory flow and units-to-dollars translation to promotional pricing and unit economics at the partner level.
- Own forecasting for long-tail/mature SKUs and for smaller or emerging channels (TikTok Shop, Canada, etc).
- Partner with Operations team to manage supplier capacity: prepare the monthly reorder pack, consolidate PO advancement requests, and factor any supplier constraints into the demand plan and reorder timing.
Pricing & Promotional Analysis
- Own pricing QA across site, Amazon, and retail surfaces, and build the assortment-and-pricing-by-partner tracking system that doesn't exist today.
- Own the standard post-mortem format for promotions, gift-with-purchase offers, and price tests, building the institutional read on how customers respond to discount depth and bundle structure.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required
- 4–7 years in FP&A, strategic finance, merchandise or inventory planning, or category management, in a consumer, retail, or e-commerce business.
- Fluency moving between units and dollars: unit forecasts, landed cost, margin, and channel P&L, including how inventory moves through the business and how promotional pricing and unit economics play out at the partner level.
- Self-sufficiency in a BI tool, ideally SQL: you can find, pull, and validate your own data and build your own reporting. You shouldn't need the data team to build views for you; you should be able to specify what you need when the underlying model genuinely doesn't support it, and build everything else yourself.
- Strong Excel and independent modeling ability: you build models from scratch that others can follow, audit, and defend. This is a daily skill in this role, not an occasional one.
- Comfort working across departments: a large share of this role is with Growth, Merchandising, Retail, Supply Chain, Accounting, and Creative. You need to be effective with people who don't think in financial terms, and confident holding a standard with them.
- Familiarity with the GL, chart of accounts, financial statements, P&L structure, and budget-to-actuals reporting. Ownership of these isn't expected; fluency reading and working with them is.
- Comfort being visibly wrong: forecasting is a discipline of continuous revision; we need someone who reforecasts honestly rather than defending a prior number.
Strongly preferred
- SKU-level planning experience: assortment productivity, open-to-buy, receipt planning, or markdown and promotional planning.
- Exposure to inventory-constrained decision-making: supplier lead times, MOQs, capacity limits.
- Experience with an ERP (Fulfil, NetSuite, or similar) alongside a BI layer.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $110,000 - 130,000. Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
