Company Description Destination NSW is the lead agency and voice for the visitor economy within the NSW Government, driving sustainable growth across Sydney and regional New South Wales. The agency leads the delivery of the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035, working in close partnership with government, industry, and key stakeholders. Through strategic research, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and commercial partnerships, Destination NSW shapes and strengthens the visitor economy. The organization also invests in visitor experiences, business support, marketing, and events to attract more visitors and enhance their experience. As the major investor in Business Events Sydney (BESydney), Destination NSW helps secure international and domestic conventions, incentive travel programs, corporate events, and exhibitions for the state.

Role Description The Manager IT, Data and AI is a full-time role responsible for leading the delivery, governance, and continuous improvement of information technology, data, and AI solutions that support Destination NSW’s strategic goals. Based in Wollongong, NSW in a hybrid working arrangement, the role combines on-site collaboration with the flexibility to work from home. Day-to-day activities include overseeing IT operations, managing data platforms and analytics capabilities, and guiding the responsible use of AI technologies to improve decision-making and service delivery. The role leads a technical team, prioritizes and resolves complex incidents, coordinates technical support, and ensures system reliability, security, and compliance with relevant standards. The Manager collaborates with business units to understand requirements, translate them into technology roadmaps, and drive projects that enhance digital tools for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Information Technology, including systems, infrastructure, and applications relevant to data and AI initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in Technical Support and Troubleshooting, with the ability to resolve complex issues and oversee incident and problem management.
  • Proven Team Leadership and Team Management skills, including mentoring, performance management, and building a collaborative, high-performing technical team.
  • Experience with data management, analytics, and AI technologies (e.g., data warehousing, BI tools, machine learning platforms), and knowledge of data governance and privacy principles.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technology strategies and project plans, with strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working in or with government, tourism, or large complex organizations is advantageous.
  • Commitment to inclusive, ethical, and secure use of data and AI, and to continuous learning in emerging technologies.
