Through our national federated network of nearly 180 locations, Family Promise mobilizes community stakeholders to provide prevention and shelter services, housing stabilization services, and affordable permanent housing to families with children in a housing crisis.

As the organization enters its next chapter of growth and national impact, we are seeking a Manager of Grants Compliance who will strengthen Family Promise's grant management and compliance infrastructure, ensure responsible stewardship of public and private funding, and support effective grant implementation across the national office and Affiliate network.


The Opportunity

Family Promise National is seeking a Manager of Grants Compliance to join our Finance Team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role is responsible for ensuring strong financial and administrative compliance across a portfolio of private, corporate, foundation, state, and federal grants throughout the full award lifecycle.

This is a hands-on role that combines grants management, financial oversight, compliance monitoring, systems building, and partnership with Family Promise Affiliates and internal teams. The Manager will help ensure grant funds are used as intended, requirements and deadlines are met, risks are identified early, and strong processes are in place as Family Promise expands its grant portfolio, including government funding.


What You Will Do

Grant Management and Financial Compliance

  • Manage compliance for a portfolio of private, foundation, corporate, state, and federal grants from award through closeout.
  • Review grant agreements and translate financial, reporting, programmatic, and compliance requirements into clear processes and expectations.
  • Monitor grant expenditures for allowability, allocability, reasonableness, alignment with approved budgets, donor restrictions, organizational policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee grant budgets, spend-down, reporting, revenue reimbursement requests, and related financial activity to support timely and accurate execution.
  • Coordinate grant setup and maintenance in Sage Intacct and build dashboards and tools to track spend-down, compliance status, and reporting deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain cost-allocation methodologies and time-tracking systems in preparation for larger state and federal awards.
  • Apply a risk-based compliance approach appropriate to each funding source, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and Single Audit requirements where applicable.

Affiliate Compliance & Monitoring

  • Partner with other teams to proactively monitor grant implementation, spend-down, reporting, and compliance with our network of Affiliate locations
  • Support the development and maintenance of MOUs that clearly define spend-down timelines, reporting requirements, performance thresholds, and other compliance expectations.
  • Conduct periodic virtual and on-site monitoring visits, including review of sample case records, receipts, eligibility documentation, and HMIS/Family Link data to confirm funds are being used as intended and reaching families.
  • Lead quarterly and mid-year check-ins related to grant spend-down and reporting, separate from the annual funding allocation process.
  • Identify compliance concerns, follow up directly when expectations are not being met, and implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed.
  • Build and maintain grant-specific policies, procedures, monitoring checklists, and a scalable compliance playbook across the grant portfolio.

Reporting, Systems & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Provide guidance and support for audits related to programmatic grant management, including SEFA requirements as applicable.
  • Help ensure compliance with relevant licensing and nonprofit-status requirements.
  • Develop and communicate fiscal policies, procedures, and financial guidance for the National Office and Affiliates.
  • Partner with the Data team to support appropriate data collection, evaluation, and reporting on program outcomes.
  • Support Development in communications with funders and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on grant objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Analyze existing processes and identify opportunities to strengthen policies, procedures, internal controls, grant management practices, and organizational readiness for future funding opportunities.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in grants management, grants compliance, nonprofit finance, or governmental accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing compliance for both government and private grants.
  • Strong knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), Single Audit requirements, nonprofit accounting principles, and GAAP.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining close attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft 365; Sage Intacct experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A self-directed, organized approach with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative, service-oriented approach to building trust with Affiliates while maintaining appropriate financial oversight and accountability.
  • A strong commitment to Family Promise's mission and to high professional and ethical standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building compliance systems, monitoring protocols, or audit programs from the ground up.
  • Grants management certification, such as CGMS.
  • Experience in family homelessness, housing, or other human services programs.
  • Strong data analytics and systems-building skills, including experience creating dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI or Sage Intacct.
  • Comfort using data analysis and visualization to report on program outcomes.

Work Environment and Compensation/ Benefits

  • This position may be based onsite in Family Promise National's Summit, New Jersey office, hybrid, or primarily remote, with some travel required.
  • Infrequent evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 15 pounds may occasionally be necessary.
  • Compensation range for this role begins at $90,000
