The Manager, Program Communications will be responsible for developing materials that help translate and distill complex research, legislation, and programmatic impact into compelling content that advances the priorities of Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign. This role will develop messaging and assets that inform, persuade, and mobilize key audiences including policymakers, program partners, advocates, practitioners, and the media. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and communicator with experience turning technical policy and research content into clear, accessible, audience-centered communications. They will also be able to effectively leverage and present research, data and best practices in a compelling, easy to understand way. They will create a wide range of content, including testimony, talking points, visualizations, toolkits, one-pagers, briefing materials, presentations, digital content, and campaign resources for both national and state-based efforts. This position reports to the Associate Director, Media & Public Affairs. This position can be based in Washington, DC or fully remote. The position offers a salary range of $71k-$79k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and produce written and visual assets including testimony, talking points, one-pagers, fact sheets, toolkits, presentations, briefing materials, reports, and digital content. Translate complex legislative language, policy proposals, research findings, and programmatic data into clear, compelling, audience-centered communications. Draft and edit content for a variety of audiences, including policymakers, program partners and practitioners, advocates, and the media. Identify compelling stories, visuals, data points, and ways of communicating about the work that brings policy and program work to life and encourage the adoption of identified best practices. Ensure communications materials are accurate, audience-appropriate, on-brand, and aligned with organizational messaging frameworks. Coordinate with Communications colleagues across marketing, design and creative teams to support integrated campaign execution. Maintain and organize communications resources, messaging documents, and content libraries to support internal stakeholders. Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work. SUPERVISION: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred but not required. 3-5+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, policy communications, journalism, public policy, or a related field. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with demonstrated experience translating complex policy, legislative, or research content into effective communications. Ability to identify engaging and effective ways of visualizing or presenting data, research, and policy information. Experience developing content for multiple audiences, including policymakers, advocates, program partners, and the media. Preferred candidates have experience working on federal nutrition or benefits programs, and an understanding of public policy, advocacy and legislative processes. Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and identify the most compelling narratives and messages. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions. Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
