About Wpay:

Wpay is one of Australia and New Zealand’s leading payment experience companies. We unlock the untapped potential of payments to help complex businesses simplify their operations and accelerate growth. At the same time, we enhance customer experiences and keep them safe from fraud.

Founded within the Woolworths group, we’re Australia’s largest non-bank payments provider. We process over 1.5bn transactions and over $87bn in volumes each year, servicing over 25m customers in-store and 27m customers online – every week.

As we grow, we're committed to building payment experiences and move businesses beyond payments.

  • We’re looking for people capable of driving innovation and transformation in an industry ready for disruption.

  • Shaping the future of payments takes innovation and collaboration, and together, we’ll make it a reality.

What you’ll do:

You will serve as the key operational and strategic link between Wpay, major payment schemes including American Express, eftpos (AP+), Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa and internal finance and product teams. Managing scheme compliance, operational reporting, and financial analytics while driving external partner relationships and regulatory oversight.

  • Act as the primary operational lead for card schemes, managing regular reviews and alignment sessions with AP+, Mastercard, Visa, and Amex.

  • Coordinate day-to-day scheme engagement, tracking progress on joint deliverables and action items.

  • Lead the end-to-end scheme fee recovery process, managing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reconciliations to ensure accuracy.

  • Partner with Finance to audit scheme invoices, resolve billing discrepancies, and track fee changes.

  • Analyze scheme data to support negotiations and work with Product teams to optimize cost-of-acceptance and interchange fees.

  • Manage operational and regulatory reporting, delivering timely submissions to external bodies like the RBA, APN, and payment networks.

  • Build internal dashboards to monitor transaction volumes, routing performance, scheme costs, and compliance metrics.

  • Translate complex scheme mandates and regulatory changes into actionable requirements, aligning internal roadmaps to meet deadlines.

What you’ll bring:

You excel at structuring clear, persuasive arguments that shape strategic decisions. A natural relationship manager, you seamlessly navigate complex partnerships with major payment networks like Visa, Mastercard, and AP+, while driving alignment across internal Product, Finance, and Engineering teams.

  • Three years of experience in a commercial or relationship management role.

  • Experience in the payments industry is desirable, though not essential.

  • Proven track record of managing complex external relationships with major card schemes.

  • Demonstrated success driving internal alignment across Product, Finance, and Engineering teams.

  • Skilled in analysing scheme fee structures, routing costs, and key financial metrics.

  • Adept at root-cause analysis to resolve fee variances and mandate non-compliance issues.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on streamlining reporting and operational workflows.

What you’ll experience:

  • Develop your career in an organisation that gives you the time and space to think creatively and strategically

  • Feel supported and empowered by your leaders

  • A truly unique opportunity to be involved in creating, shaping and leading the new retail media industry.

  • A global business with endless career possibilities around every corner and across every discipline – with valuable exposure to a vast and exciting business network.
