BE YOUR BEST AT BDO

Are you an experienced risk and consulting leader who wants more influence - over your clients, your team and the direction of a growing practice? This role gives you that.

We occupy a unique space in the market. We work with entrepreneurial, owner-led businesses, where our advice directly shapes how they operate and succeed. We also work with some of the largest organisations in New Zealand and overseas. For our people, that means a range of experience few firms can offer.

Our Risk Assurance & Consulting team is successful, growth-focused and in demand. We're looking for leaders who want to help shape its next stage, and grow their own careers as it grows.

Professional services is changing fast. AI and new technologies are reshaping what clients need from us and how we deliver it. We want leaders who don't just respond to that change, but help drive it.

The work we do

  • Risk management consulting - helping boards and management teams identify and manage the risks to their strategy
  • Process improvement and transformation - redesigning how organisations work, often after a new system, a merger, efficiency goals or new regulation
  • Assurance - internal audit and reviews of controls and compliance, giving boards, management and regulators confidence that processes are well designed and working in practice
  • Technology and AI - using AI and automation to improve core business processes
  • Deal support - helping clients find and protect value before and after a transaction
  • Fraud risk - preventing and detecting fraud and, when needed, investigating and quantifying losses for legal proceedings.

About the role

You'll lead a portfolio of engagements and be a trusted adviser to executives, audit committees and boards. You'll have leadership responsibility from day one, with your own clients and your own team.

Just as important, you'll lead people. We want someone who helps the team see the big picture, manage competing priorities and communicate with confidence - and who sets the standard through their own example.

You'll

  • Own engagements end to end, from scoping and pricing to delivery and reporting
  • Build and own senior client relationships, setting clear expectations and dealing with issues early and openly
  • Frame complex problems and shape practical, commercial solutions
  • Present findings and recommendations to executives, audit committees and boards
  • Lead, coach and develop your team, building their judgement, communication and confidence
  • Win and grow work through proposals, pitches and strong relationships
  • Work with partners on the direction, quality and growth of the practice
  • Champion new ways of working, including AI and automation, in what we deliver and how.

About you

  • Substantial experience, mostly in professional services (risk advisory, internal audit, assurance or consulting), now at manager or senior manager level
  • CA and/or IIA qualified, or another relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Client-side or commercial experience is a bonus, not essential
  • A track record of leading several engagements at once and owning client relationships
  • Strong project management skills and sound commercial judgement
  • Experience leading, developing and motivating people
  • A confident, credible communicator who handles challenging conversations well, inside the firm and out
  • Forward-thinking, self-motivated and committed to getting things right.

For Senior Manager candidates, we'll also look for a record of winning work and taking responsibility for a wider part of a practice.

What You'll Get

For the right leader, this is a chance to accelerate your career and make a visible mark. You'll join a dynamic, fast-paced team of experienced, interesting people at an exciting stage of its growth.

  • Leadership from day one - your own clients, engagements and team from the start
  • A clear path up - real room to grow to the most senior levels of the firm
  • Influence - help shape the team, its culture and how it uses AI and new technology
  • Variety - work from entrepreneurial, owner-led businesses through to multinationals and listed companies, across sectors
  • Profile - work directly with partners and with client boards and executives
  • Balance - hybrid working, wellbeing support, and birthday and volunteering leave.

If this sounds like you, apply now with your CV and a short cover letter. For a confidential conversation first, contact Will Ross.

You must currently be in New Zealand and hold permanent work rights to apply.
