Scope:
The Social Media Manager will help to meaningfully develop and support March of Dimes’ local social media program across 30+ markets, serving as a key point of contact for the social team and as the content lead and coach for local teams. This role will develop scalable, cross-channel content and provide markets with the tools, guidance and best practices they need to create engaging social content that demonstrates local impact and connects to national campaigns and mission moments.
This social media subject matter expert will also develop social content and approach for key fundraising and engagement initiatives, including March for Babies, Run for Moms, Special Events, National Service Partners and Volunteers. Additionally, the Social Media Manager will support rapid-response efforts by identifying relevant cultural trends and conversations and developing timely, brand-appropriate content that allows March of Dimes to participate authentically in the moment.
This role will also serve as an on-camera representative for the organization, participating in social video content, live streams, interviews and other audience-facing opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute platform-native social content across March of Dimes owned social media channels.
- Manage a diverse social content portfolio that supports national revenue campaigns, local market engagement, March for Babies, Run for Moms, Special Events, volunteer engagement, and national service partnerships.
- Identify relevant trends, cultural conversations, creators, formats and audience behaviors and translate them into authentic opportunities for social content and engagement.
- Create and/or oversee the creation of short-form video, Reels, TikToks, Stories, static content and other social-first formats.
- Stay current on evolving social platforms, creator culture, algorithms, formats and content trends.
- Support low-budget paid social initiatives, partnering with the paid media team on the approach for audience targeting, creative development and performance reporting.
- Use social analytics, listening and SEO insights to test, learn and continually improve content and performance.
- Identify and cultivate opportunities with influencers, creators and community partners to expand reach and engagement.
- Represent the organization through on-camera content, live streams, interviews and other social-first experiences.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in social media, digital marketing, content marketing or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience creating engaging, social-first content across platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Threads.
- Strong understanding of platform-specific audiences, behaviors, formats and best practices.
- Experience in developing social media content approaches and strategies designed for specific audiences and platforms, around measurable goals.
- Experience using analytics and audience insights to translate performance data into actionable content and recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience developing social content or experiences that support fundraising, donations, events, lead generation or other conversion-focused campaigns.
- Excellent storytelling, copywriting and creative judgment, with the ability to adapt messaging and tone across platforms.
- Strong cultural and social awareness, with an ability to recognize emerging conversations and trends and using sound judgement to determine when and how a brand should participate.
- Comfortable serving as an on-camera presence, including appearing in social videos, participating in live streams, conducting interviews and engaging directly with audiences.
- Experience working cross-functionally with vendors or external partners, creative, communications, fundraising and/or marketing teams.
- Experience with Sprout Social, Hootsuite or similar social publishing and analytics tools.
- Agency and/or nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in the maternal and infant health/women’s health space is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
The Ideal Candidate
You are culturally curious, highly plugged into social, creative and comfortable experimenting. You understand why something works on TikTok but not Facebook, can spot an emerging trend before it peaks, and know how to turn a cultural conversation into meaningful brand engagement. You balance creativity with performance, understand that social can drive both awareness and fundraising, and are excited by the opportunity to help a mission-driven organization build deeper connections with its audiences.
You are equally comfortable informing a social strategy, jumping in front of the camera, analyzing campaign performance, collaborating with an agency or creative partner, and rolling up your sleeves to make great content happen. You are a collaborative and generous teammate who is willing to jump in and support colleagues when needed, whether that means helping a fellow social team member meet a deadline, supporting broader digital initiatives or sharing your expertise with partners across the team. You understand that great work happens through collaboration and see yourself as a trusted partner to your fellow social media team member and the broader digital team.
