What you will do

As Manager, Technical Learning, you will lead the strategy, development, delivery and continuous improvement of the HVAC Equipment Training portfolio for Johnson Controls customers and channel partners. This portfolio includes learning solutions for chillers, HVAC mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, and related technologies. You will lead and develop a team of technical learning professionals while ensuring training solutions meet the evolving needs of our customers, partners, products, and business.

Success in this role requires strong people leadership, learning and development expertise, business acumen, and the ability to build trusted relationships across a complex organization. The successful candidate will be able to translate complex technical content into practical learning experiences and help the team expand beyond traditional product training to support broader customer and partner enablement needs.

How you will do it

  • Lead the HVAC Equipment Training portfolio, establishing priorities and plans that align learning solutions with product roadmaps, business needs, customer requirements and partner capability needs.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of technical learning professionals, setting clear expectations, building capability, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Own the operational and financial performance of the portfolio, using revenue, utilization, capacity, customer experience, learning outcomes, and other key metrics to guide decisions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with business, product, and channel stakeholders to understand needs, establish priorities, and translate business requirements into effective learning solutions.
  • Ensure high-quality learning experiences across instructor-led, virtual, online, hands-on, and blended modalities, with appropriate standards for technical accuracy, consistency, safety, and learner experience.
  • Align instructor capacity, training schedules, equipment, labs, and other resources to support business priorities and customer demand.
  • Maintain alignment between training programs, product changes, and evolving customer and partner needs.
  • Use learner feedback, assessments, operational data, and business outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and scale training processes, programs, and resources across the portfolio.
  • Communicate portfolio performance, priorities, risks, and resource needs to key stakeholders and leadership.

What we look for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Learning & Development, Education, Business, Organizational Development, Engineering, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Learning & Development, technical training, customer education, enablement, program management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing others.
  • Experience managing multiple programs, projects, services, or a portfolio with competing priorities and stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to use data to identify opportunities, establish priorities, and make informed decisions.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills, with demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex products, technologies, processes, or business environments.

Preferred qualifications

  • Formal people-management experience.
  • Experience managing a learning portfolio, training operation, customer education function, or comparable service organization.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum development, instructional methods, and learning evaluation.
  • Experience supporting external customers, channel partners, distributors, or other non-employee learner populations.
  • Experience in HVAC, building technologies, industrial equipment, manufacturing, engineering, or another technical environment

This role is remote eligible.
