Job Description

An exceptional opportunity exists for a technically accomplished and operationally focused technology leader to join Thomson Reuters as Managing Director Technology for the Asia Emerging and Markets (AEM) region. Reporting to the Head of Product Engineering ATPA this is a senior leadership role with accountability for ensuring that technology effectively enables and supports the business across the region.

The MD Technology will be the primary technology partner to the AEM leadership team — ensuring that the right infrastructure, systems, and engineering capabilities are in place to deliver against regional business objectives. The role demands a hands-on leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong execution ability, and who can build and sustain high-performing teams that support a complex, fast-moving regional business, with a focus on SaaS and AI engineering.

A key dimension of the role is the integration of artificial intelligence and intelligent tooling into the technology function — improving engineering productivity, operational reliability, and the quality of technology support across the region. Additionally, the MD Technology will play an important role in supporting inorganic growth activity in the region, providing technology due diligence and post-transaction integration leadership as Thomson Reuters pursues acquisitions and partnerships across AEM.

The role is based in Singapore and requires a minimum of 3 days per week in office. Travel across the AEM region should be expected.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Enablement & AI Adoption

  • Ensure that technology capabilities across the AEM region are fit for purpose, scalable, and effectively aligned to the needs of the business — acting as the primary technology partner to AEM business leadership.
  • Lead the adoption of artificial intelligence tools and practices within the technology function — identifying where AI can improve engineering productivity, reduce toil, and enhance operational performance.
  • Drive the deployment of AI-powered developer tools across engineering teams — including tools such as, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, AI-enhanced testing frameworks, and intelligent CI/CD pipelines — to improve delivery velocity and code quality.
  • Promote AI literacy across technology teams, ensuring that engineers and technology staff can use AI tools responsibly and effectively as part of their day-to-day workflows.

Infrastructure & Operational Resilience

  • Oversee the management and ongoing maintenance of the region's technology infrastructure — including cloud services, data platforms, and network systems — ensuring high availability, security, and reliability appropriate to the region's business-critical operations.
  • Leverage AI-powered monitoring and AIOps practices to enhance operational resilience and reduce mean time to resolution across the region's technology estate.
  • Ensure robust, consistent technology support across the AEM region — including overseeing Level 1 to Level 3 support for Thomson Reuters customer products and mission-critical internal tools.

Product Engineering & Delivery

  • Lead engineering teams responsible for the development and maintenance of software platforms, applications and tools used by the AEM business and its customers.
  • Oversee the delivery of SaaS products, shipped software platforms, and specialised hardware appliances deployed in customer environments across the region.
  • Embed AI-assisted development practices — including AI code review, automated documentation, and intelligent test generation — to improve engineering throughput and reduce technical debt.

Cybersecurity

  • Maintain a robust, AI-augmented cybersecurity posture for the AEM region, safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring compliance with applicable data privacy and security regulations across the region's varied jurisdictions.

Inorganic Activity & M&A Support

  • Act as the regional technology lead for inorganic growth activity — providing technology due diligence support for acquisitions, investments and partnerships being pursued by Thomson Reuters in the AEM region.
  • Lead the technology workstream for post-transaction integration, ensuring acquired businesses and technology assets are effectively onboarded into the Thomson Reuters technology environment in a timely and controlled manner.
  • Maintain awareness of the technology landscape across target markets, contributing informed perspective on technology risk, capability gaps, and integration complexity as part of broader deal evaluation processes.

Vendor & Partner Management

  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, AI solution providers, and strategic partners across the region; negotiate contracts and ensure that third-party services meet Thomson Reuters' standards for quality, security, and value.
  • Drive rationalisation of the vendor landscape with a focus on consolidating AI and cloud tooling into a coherent, supportable ecosystem.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage the AEM technology budget, allocate resources effectively, and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies through automation, AI-driven optimisation, and right-sizing of third-party relationships.
  • Ensure the technology function is appropriately structured and resourced to support the region, including managing location strategy for technology teams across AEM.

Process Excellence & Ways of Working

  • Bring AI-augmented and lean methodologies to drive continuous improvement in how the technology function operates — with a focus on improving both the quality of technology support to the business and the experience of the teams delivering it.
  • Ensure that end-to-end process improvement activity delivers measurable outcomes for customers, employees, and the business.

The role is based in Singapore. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid environment, spending a minimum of 3 days per week in office. Regular travel across the Asia Emerging Markets region is expected.
