Job Description
Salary up to £40,000 depending on experience
The Manufacturing Development Engineer defines, develops and delivers manufacturing projects and technical workstreams that improve manufacturing capability, capacity, quality, safety, cost and efficiency. The role owns assigned activities from requirements capture and feasibility through specification, procurement, development, installation, commissioning, validation and controlled handover into Production. It brings together technical engineering, project governance and stakeholder leadership to ensure that manufacturing solutions are safe, capable, documented, accepted and aligned with business requirements.

Key responsibilities
- Degree, higher apprenticeship or equivalent experience in mechanical, manufacturing, production, industrial, electrical or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience of delivering engineering projects or technical workstreams in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of manufacturing process development, equipment specification, commissioning, validation and production handover.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, process data and acceptance evidence.
- Working knowledge of project planning, risk management, cost control and change management.
- Experience of working across functions and with external suppliers or contractors.
- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to adapt to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, process discipline and professional judgement.
Desirable responsibilities
- Capital-equipment procurement and machine-tool implementation.
- CNC machining, automation, robotics, metrology or manufacturing data analysis.
- Process-capability analysis, statistical process control or measurement-system analysis.
- Design for Manufacture and production-process optimisation.
- Experience of controlled engineering-change or manufacturing-release processes.
- Experience of multi-site projects or transfers between manufacturing platforms.
Person specification
The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned workstreams, operate independently within agreed governance frameworks, and remain composed and constructive under pressure. They will use evidence to make sound recommendations, communicate risks early, align competing stakeholder interests, and deliver safe, capable, and well-documented solutions through to robust production handover. They will respond positively to feedback and demonstrate a commitment to continuously improving their personal effectiveness.
